2015 nismo tech 6mt or auto ??

Im planning on getting the 2015 Nismo tech soon, i learned manual , not fully but the basic. So after driving a manual, in traffic it was a pain in the *** holy ****. i live in ny long island, long island traffic is insane. i loved my auto 2013 touring sports, got totaled. Now I'm really second thinking on the manual nismo tech. this is my daily driver and i know many of you daily drive your manual but i just can't get used to it. idk what to do .. I never track my car, i will never put force induction, i just love the Z cause of the performance, looks, I'm not a racer, I want the nismo for cursing and knowing i have 350hp in the palm of my hands for some fun ... so idk what to do. haha

Get whatever YOU want and don't look back.

Shawa 11-03-2014 11:48 AM

You pretty much answered your own question lol, if traffic bothers you then stick with the auto.

kenchan 11-03-2014 11:51 AM

honestly i prefer MT in congestion over AT. MT is less strain for me in bumper to bumper unless im in SF or somewhere there's lots of bigarse very steep hills.

big factor of owning a sports car is for you to enjoy it. if you're more comfy in a AT, get the AT and enjoy it.

DEpointfive0 11-03-2014 12:04 PM

Do the 7AT and the 6MT both get the 3.9 gears?

You can't get used to it because you're probably just practicing here and there on a friend/family members car, right? You aren't going to get a 100% comfortable with a manual until you actually buy one and get a bunch of hours behind the wheel. I say go for the 6mt, but I'm out numbered here by the 7at boys so I'm sure the majority is going to say auto. Good luck with your decision.

JARblue 11-03-2014 12:30 PM

:wtf: Where is the 6mt vs 7at argument? Someone posts they love their (*insert transmission type here*) in a random thread, and the (*insert opposite transmission type here*) crew shows up in force to start $hit. But then someone starts a new thread on whether they should get MT or AT and no one jumps on it? :shakes head: :icon17:

OP, I love my manual. By the internet associative property, you must as well or else you are less intelligent than me. I think you know what needs to be done :tiphat:

typically you have to say my name 3 times like beetlejuice or candyman for me to show up. but this time i'll make an exception.

now whats the issue for me to tell you that the 7AT is the way to go?

JWillis72 11-03-2014 02:26 PM

I bought a 7AT for the same reasons your thinking about buying one and I love the car. I don't regret buying the auto at all. It's now a track car for the most part and I still love the 7AT. I bought a Audi TT as a DD and I miss driving the Z every time I'm in it.

Malm 11-03-2014 02:26 PM

From your post it seems obvious to go 7at. You still get paddle shifters and manual mode if you want to play around with it. In the end, no one but yourself will care wether the car is manual or automatic.

FPenvy 11-03-2014 02:31 PM

7AT is just the better choice all around.

kenchan 11-03-2014 02:40 PM

.. for the can'ts

evil370z 11-03-2014 02:40 PM

guys i think I'm going with manual transmission, nismo automatic dosent even sound good. ill buy the car and practice on it, either way clutch and gears are covered under the warranty.

Good choice, however, since this is your only car, be sure. I love my 6MT, but I also don't drive it daily. Chicago traffic is pretty bad, which is why my DD is an auto....

evil, Honolulu has the 2nd worse traffic in the nation. I drive my 6mt as a daily and it doesn't bother me at all. A helpful tip when driving in a lot of stop & go traffic, use neutral as much as possible, not neutral by stepping on the clutch and holding it down but the shifter neutral position.

Example, stopped on freeway (okay oxymoron) leave stick in neutral postion, car in front moves forward a bit, step on clutch engage first gear. Wind up rpm's to appropriate level then step on clutch and put stick in neutral position and let the car roll. If the car in front stops then you just step on your brake. However if the car keeps going for a bit, then you can step on clutch and engage 2nd gear. Rinse & repeat. Bottom line is to hold down the clutch as little as possible in traffic, which relieves your left leg and reduces unnecessary shifting.

The real pain in the arse is stop & go traffic on a long uphill trek.

Yes sir, good point. Bumper to bumper traffic never bothered me either. If you just put it in first gear and let it coast with your foot off the gas, the car is only going to move 1 or 2mph (unless you are on a step hill like you mentioned). Then just shift into N when you come to a stop and repeat till you're on your way.

i might be getting the white nismo tech by the end of this month or into next month, 6mt

:iagree: :iagree: :iagree:

driving a 6MT in NYC traffic is terrible. Ask me how I know? (see location)

And where in LI is there traffic? Maybe for a little while right when you're near the Queens border, but generally out there, traffic out there isn't even that bad whenever I go out there.

Zerocool 11-03-2014 08:24 PM

It's the reason why I got mine in auto... NYC traffic sucks soooooooooooooo bad. That being said, I do wish I had the 6 speed manual though even with the shitty traffic.

also want to boost the car so that's another reason why I want the 6mt

I went MT, but note that the clutch only has a 12k mi warranty on it per my dealership.

A few months ago I was in SF in a rental MT PT cruiser. Got to know the smell of that clutch well.

I have 2 cars, the Z is a stick and an automatic Avalon. I drive both in Chicago traffic all the time. I much prefer the stick. I get so bored in the Toyota that I'm afraid of nodding off. With the stick at least you have something to do. I also agree that neutral is your friend in traffic. I spend lots of time just coasting in neutral when the traffic is just barely moving. I do have one hilly area on the route where traffic always backs up. I just use the parking brake to avoid rolling backward. That said, this is Chicago not San Francisco so our inclines are minor...I might feel different if I had a commute with lots of hills.

Where abouts in Chicago are you? Always good to see another Chi-town Z
