'15 Base 7AT = No Paddle Shifters???

Standing around at the dealership while my Z is being fixed and noticed that a new 2015 Base Z with 7AT has no paddle shifters. Has this always been this way or is this new for 2015? Seems like an expensive option to not have paddles...

6MT-Z34 09-29-2014 11:39 AM

I just checked the website..you are right

not sure if it's always been like that

Malm 09-29-2014 11:40 AM

my base 2011 7at has paddle shifters.

IAmTheStig 09-29-2014 11:42 AM

Weak...

Seems like weak sauce to me...

ZKraken22 09-29-2014 11:44 AM

Wow that's hard to believe. Not saying you're lying. Just can't believe nissan would do that.

Wonka2581 09-29-2014 11:47 AM

Whoa what??? My 2011 Base 7AT has them..... WTF? NISSAN...ugh

DavidZ370 09-29-2014 12:05 PM

And I can see Nissan doing that. It's a mix of 2 things:
Nissan is cheap as a motherfucker
And they want to differentiate base models and higher models

MJB 09-29-2014 12:22 PM

Well, guess if you are in the market for a Base Z, and want a more "sporty" feel then you'll have to go with the 6mt :stirthepot:. I'll teach anyone if they need lessons. $500/hr + tips

kooko 09-29-2014 12:30 PM

Looks like the nismo also doesnt have paddle shifters? I thought they did.

Config page looks to confirm the base model 7AT has lost the paddle shifters.
Sport models have it and says optional for Nismos (I assume this is because the transmission is optional).

That is a base+sport model, OP is revering to just a base model with 7AT (no sport).

This is from the Nissan News website. "The 2015 370Z Coupe is equipped with a standard 332-horsepower 3.7-liter DOHC V6 engine with Variable Valve Event and Lift Control (VVEL) and choice of 6-speed manual transmission with an available SynchroRev Match® synchronized downshift rev matching system or a 7-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters."

I get what you're saying, but I'm telling you, the '15 370z 7AT without sport package has no paddle shifters. Saw it with my own two eyes.

First we had 6MT vs 7AT. Now we have 7AT vs 7AT paddle shifter. When will it all end.

Yea. No paddle shifters in the base.

lol... unless you were going NISMO, looks like 2014 was the "best" year for base 370's, given the other option drops.

$499.99/hr. Deal of the century. Some ask far more for the service.

Well I'll be damned... the OP is right...

That's what I get for being a smart *** and not actually checking...

My apology for doubting.

wait is that a 15 model or all non-sport auto's?

jpkirk 09-29-2014 03:32 PM

From the 2015 370Z press kit ...

"Paddle shifters are standard on Touring, Sport and Sport Tech grades." Everything but the base.

Makes me happy I got my 09 with 7AT and paddles....I feel bad for the new guy who isn't knowing and gets on this site and finds out after he/she bought a '15 model base 7AT that the paddles were optional....I mean is that something the sale guys are going to use to upsell or...?

What's weird is that it lists paddle shifters with the 7AT as a whole transmission package -- I don't see a listing for a 7AT without them

Is the 7AT option cheaper on the base than on the base+sport? Seems to me like it should be if this is the case.

I love my paddles. Great feature.

Mine was a $1300 option... This from Nissan web site for a Base 7AT:

2013 Transmission: 7-Speed Automatic $1,300
Includes paddle shifters and Downshift Rev Matching. Transmission specifications - Speeds: 7. Type: Automatic w/OD.

2015 Transmission: 7-Speed Automatic $1,300
Transmission specifications - Speeds: 7. Type: Automatic w/OD.

No mention of paddles... Cheap bastards!!!

SouthArk370Z 09-29-2014 07:20 PM

I didn't use the paddles that much when I had my Z, so they are not that big of a deal to me. But it seems odd that Nissan would drop them. The differentiate-from-more-expensive-models theory proposed above is the only thing the makes any sense to me ... but it doesn't make a lot of sense.
