Who drives their 370 hard often?

As the title states how many of you guys regularly run her hard. I personally am not hammering on mine all the time but at least one time every time I drive it I click off a couple gears quick and ring the motor out. So lets hear it, is your Z ran hard?

Pushing_Tin 09-27-2009 02:05 AM

I don't run it to red line every time I drive, but I do drive it hard almost every day. That's why I bought it!

blue660r01 09-27-2009 02:12 AM

No that belongs on the track.

carfr3ak 09-27-2009 02:23 AM

Driving hard could mean merging on to the freeway in 2nd-3rd gear redlining, while still keeping to the speed limit. He's not necessarily saying that he is driving hard And breaking the law or doing dangerous things.

Trips 09-27-2009 02:23 AM

I give it a stomp every once a while.

I guess I see what you mean. My view on driving hard is literally beating the piss out of the car :icon17:

370zdub 09-27-2009 02:29 AM

oh no no no, not beat the piss out of the car or break the law. Im saying like getting on the freeway and going to 7k rpm in 2nd then quick shift to 3rd. Things like that. Do any of you guys every get the back end loose going around corners?

Pushing_Tin, I agree there isn't much point in owning a 370z if you are not going to drive it like they designed it to be driven. It doesn't make much of a grocery getter.

AK370Z 09-27-2009 02:48 AM

Lets just say, I take this twisty acceleration ramp twice a day ;). Sometime at 4a.m. when there's nothing out there, I put a big smile on my face

Trips 09-27-2009 02:55 AM

Hey Kaiser, I didn't now you had it in you to do some spirited driving like. That sounded pretty good and it would've left a smile on my face also.

kenchan 09-27-2009 08:43 AM

my car's still breaking-in...:icon14:

Supragtsxr 09-27-2009 08:48 AM

I baby my car around all day and keep within the speed limits. I accelerate slower than I did in my honda civic. I've only driven my Z hard once for about 5 seconds and managed to get myself a reckless driving ticket. Now im facing serious charges. I'll be saving any "fun activity" in the safe environment of a race track. I dont think my car will ever see higher than 3k rpm again.

spearfish25 09-27-2009 08:52 AM

Yeah, I bought mine for the gas mileage. I routinely shift at or below 2500 RPM. NOT!

Red370 09-27-2009 10:57 AM

I tend to accelerate hard to the speed limit every now and then. I think she thinks I dont care if I dont! These machines were designed for it.

And always drive below the speed limit too!

:bowrofl:

If I get 20MPG, I'm "doing good" - lol

frost 09-27-2009 11:02 AM

Ya know, I still baby the 370. I mean, I give her juice every now and then, but she's still perfect so I feel weird drifting or doing burnouts.

Now, when I get behind the wheel of my 350, I let the crazy flag fly. That thing is full of rock chips, uggo rims, a beatup interior, so I really smash the hell out of that thing.

Every time I drive my Z and bring it home, I notice another ding/dent/chip/etch, etc.

Not even got 2K on it yet, and I'm always getting to the point where I wonder if I'll even bother stipping off the stuff the detailers put on, and putting Zaino (that I bought $300 worth of stuff and have yet to use any of) on it.

lol

That, and I'm kinda lazy. I want to get a DA polisher first, and I'd rather use the money that would pay for that, to get more debt polished off.

Everyday I hit higher RPMs governed by the speed limit, and "on ramp" type factors.

I still have a perfect driving record (+20 years of driving) and hopefully I can keep it that way. Most of my over the edge driving is reserved for the track.

import111 09-27-2009 01:26 PM

I drive my Z very hard every day. Life's too short to not have fun.

I do the same as the OP.

I also must say that the trunk (and passenger seat and rear shelves, if necessary) holds a good amount of groceries!!

Hey now...I love getting groceries in mine :rofl2:

GingaBreadMan 09-27-2009 02:59 PM

It hasn't been driven hard unless smoke is coming from the brakes, oil is dripping from the exhaust and the car is screaming UNCLE!!!

sminky63 09-27-2009 03:17 PM

I give her a stomp to merge into expressway traffic, if the need arises (5 grand is the most I've done and that maybe only once)...after the 1200 mile break-in period. Otherwise, I treat my Z pretty kind.

spearfish25 09-27-2009 03:44 PM

It's good for a car to be redlined occasionally to burn off some deposits and get the juices flowing.

RCZ 09-27-2009 04:16 PM

I drive the car hard 90% of the times I turn it on.

Chan Chee Hoe 09-27-2009 06:21 PM

i have no chance to drive hard here, due to heavy traffic & low speed limits.

Lone Wolf 75 09-27-2009 07:07 PM

That all depends on what you mean by driving it hard. My Z is my daily driver, so I don't engage in stupid activities with it. However, I feel that it is also a sports car and can handle being pushed every so often.

I followed the break-in, and I usually drive with the flow of traffic. I learned a long time ago (when I was a nieve and invincible teenager with an old musclecar) that street racing costs a lot of money and that driving is a privilege, not a right. I do use the full throttle acceleration when I can, especially when merging - on ramps are made to accelerate to highway speeds and get on the highway, not to gently get onto the highway at 35 mph and gradually speed up on the highway.

There are some nice backroads near where I live, and I do enjoy having a well handling car - but I think the car's handling limits are far greater than the speeds I am willing to take the turns at (usually the max road speed limit, not the suggested turn speed).

I have went to get groceries in mine but I have found the Titan is a little easier since I can park up close and not in the middle of no where!

Normally if I make a grocery run in the Z it turns into an hour long drive because I dont want to stop driving! haa

Mike 09-27-2009 07:43 PM

I wore out a set of brake pads in 20 minutes on the racetrack, but I though I was just taking it easy, apparently not.

tooohip 09-27-2009 07:51 PM

I beat the piss out of it!

Well put, LW75, well put !!!!!!!!

370zdub 09-27-2009 11:36 PM

Indeed LW75 well put, by my house there is a mountain pass that is very curvy and a ton of fun to go for a drive on after work or on any given afternoon, it really is great to jump in the Z and just go cruise.

schrute 09-27-2009 11:37 PM

I usually "get on it" at least once every time I drive it. Just doesn't feel right if I don't!
