Depends on when the insurance expires. It's mostly good for either 6 months or a year right? When it comes time to renew they will check. However, my insurance company did tell me that they "get a little lazy" when some of their long-term customers who have never had any issues. They don't check them unless they are slow.
So for me, it took around 7 months.
