Default Steering Lock Failure, my experiences:)

This is only for 2009-2010 370z owners
So for the first time my 2010 370z had a steering lock failure. When this sadness happened, I panicked and didn't know what to do... Here is what I did and some of my thoughts...

ALL 2009-2010 370z are eligible for FREE REPAIR! So I would definitely recommend a Nissan dealership.

So here is what you do... First call the dealership and give them your vin and see if it is a recall... If the dealership is doing there job right, they should say bring it in. Now I read some cases where the dealership said no if that is the case, call another dealership. Even if it is far away its still worth imo.

I used triple AAA for transportation. For those who doesn't have Triple AAA, find someone who has a triple AAA insurance, as long as the person who has the insurance is there with a valid id, the ride is FREE

So I was able to get all this done for free
I had my car parked over night in a parking structure and the fee was $20 but I didn't even had to pay for that because they open the gate for free for the tow truck

Couple things that I learned
-I would inform the towing people if the car is in like a tight spot (e.g. parking structures)
-Most likely they won't have parts in stock. If you have proof of insurance, they will give you a rental car for free. That is what I did at least. So if worried about not having a car, just get to the dealership and get a rental (it was actually pretty interesting not having to shift gears :])
-Triple AAA has limited distance, so try to pick the nearest one. After certain amount of distance they charge (still worth it imo).
-Call as many dealership if needed. I've read cases where a guy had to call 3 different dealerships in three different cities and finally got a yes... lol
-Never pay! I've read cases where people had to pay over $800 to fix this thing.

Well good luck!
Please mistake me if I made any mistakes

-Jay

I have a 2010 and have tried 3 different dealers here in the Chicago area and they all tell me the same thing. My lock is a later version and is not included in the recall. I even tried the regional office and got the same information. No recall for mine.

The new versions can fail too, you're better off just removing the fuse and never having to worry about it again.

The "handshaking" electronics are still operating after you pull the fuse or the car wouldn't start. Although I haven't noticed any reports of electronic failures - all have been mechanical - it will happen eventually. Removing the fuse is a great idea (I did mine) but it doesn't eliminate all ESCL problems. For more info, see the link in my sig.
