If you want a V8 go buy a Mustang. A v6tt or inline 6 tt would be far more fun and have much more tuning potential done right.

I assume you would take a 4000 pound car with a 600hp v8 over a 2700 pound car with a 420hp 4 cylinder?

The difference with those options is one corners and can go fast straight lines and one will not corner at all.

Yes. In fact, a 4.0L V8 is quite small compared to the V8s everyone else uses. And our VQs are about the same size as some V8s, and weight, especially if you are considering a TT V6. I agree that a turbo is easier for power adding, but a hi-reving V8 would be a lot of fun. Look at F1. 2.4L V8 revving to 19k RPM. Not saying it needs to be that extreme, but it would be fun to have an NA hi-revving motor.

I considered a Mustang. I bought the Z because it's lighter and was more affordable for the options.

You also assume incorrectly, and your sentence structure is suspect.

Chuck33079 10-08-2014 08:00 AM

I love the assumption people keep making about how cars with V8s don't handle well, and cars with 4 or 6 cylinder motors do. :rofl2: I never heard any E92 M3 owners complain.

i just didnt like the removal of the fangs personally. the 13 bumper just looks like a 350 to me and whats the point then. plus the fangs just look badass and follow the hood design.

just think koenigsegg pulls 1,371 BHP out of a TT 5.0 V8.

i think i'd be ok with a 4.0 V8 that i can throw some snails on lol

The ISF is awesome... for a family car :ughdance:

2 doors, roadsters and coupes only, please

Seriously... I was on the market for a true coupe (ie 2 doors and 2 seats) and lets see what I could have got... Z, miata, lotus... okay nevemind I even asked that. Alfa Romeo not even in canadia nor could i afford one =(

in all honesty, i got the Z with full knowledge of its potentials, qualities, qweks, and draw backs. No other car is like it on the market, I like the design (tight waist wide hips) and the engine. There aren't any comparable engines out there. You cannot compare a FI'd engine to a NA engine because any FI'd car will have a higher output. But what would that engine do non-fi'd? What's the stress on the FI on the car? Will you get the same mileage before the heart goes? So many questions, not enough answers.

Don't get me wrong, I can appreciate all cars.

those ultra-hyper revving engines need to be rebuilt after every race so i can't say that's too practical... but would be cool to see if they could push one out for the crowds :happydance:

However the v8 people are suggesting is Nissan's VK45/VK56. A little different than the E92 M3.

Also why have an NA v8 when you can have a TT 6cyl. I don't see F82 M4 owners wishing they had a v8 :ugh2:. One owner in our Sunday C&C group traded his ZR1 for the M4 and doesn't miss it one bit...

A NA V8 can make the same power numbers, with no lag, with less heat and less complexity and less weight once you add in all of the turbo parts and plumbing. If Nissan had offered a V8 Z with 450 ft/lbs of torque, I'd have happily done that over boosting the Z. Plus, it's not like you can't boost a V8.

And the guy who traded the ZR1 for the M4 doesn't miss it one bit because the interior of a Vette is really sad, especially when you pay 100k for it.

True. It's all preference. I would rather a factory turbo engine. After being around the Forced Induction crowd, I'm ready to join. To me, the bang for the buck factor is factory FI. Lag is all about the equipment you use and how it's tuned. Factory FI cars have little to no lag and very nice torque curves. The M4, for example, peak torque comes early on around 2k and stays pretty flat throughout the rev band.

And yes, the interior/build quality played into it, but he said it was just the overall driving experience. I asked him specifically about the engine, how it was going from a giant blown v8 to a TT I6, and he said that the only thing he missed about it was the instant low end torque vs the BMW having to spool up a bit. Just his opinion though. I don't own either so I can't comment on it.

bimmer's are tuned that way... i know the 335 peaks around 3k rpm with majority coming in between 2-2.5 range. the car idled in low 1k range. In all honesty I did not notice any 'lag' in the get-go but if shifting around 3k rpm it would feel like a long shift/power response compared to shifting at say 3.5 or 4k...

I think most Factory FI cars are tuned that way, especially the more 'civilian' ones. My good friend has a 2010 GTI 6MT and his peak torque comes in at 1700rpm and is pretty flat through 5000 or so. It does fall flat up top so winding it all the way to red line doesn't do that much. Once he added intake and APR stage 1 tune, it really woke up.

Yeah, that's the problem. Manufacturers don't think customers want to deal with a low boost threshold, so they use undersized turbos. They feel peppy down low and die up top. You can run more boost out of them, but they end up just blowing hot air once you run them out of their efficiency range. I'd be happy if they put in a factory turbo motor with the headroom to swap out the turbo without building a motor. Some lag is unavoidable, since there is many feet of pipe and an intercooler that must be pressurized before the motor sees positive pressure.

If they follow the new coupe Q60 route then, ""The new Q60 is going to be a big pivot point for the brand," de Nysschen admits. Meanwhile, a new V-6 family is under development to replace the coarse old unit that's done sterling service in dozens of Nissan and Infiniti models over the years. It'll be smoother, lighter, more refined, more efficient, "and there's plenty of headroom for turbocharging," adds de Nysschen.

This is actually great news, the vq37 without being boosted it very linear and coarse. It doesn't sound like a sport car either you have to spend $1500 on a cat back just to make it sound proper. Still doesn't sound as good as that g35 purr.

Nissan / infiniti desperately need a better v6 for mpg, also turbo 4 options from mercedes

As far as I know, the Z35 will have a few engine options and broad price range. Z is going semi-global.

Then why was the most recent article interview with nakumara saying they don't even know if there will be a next gen Z. If there is they really have to do some research to make it an idx z type car which they haven't even confirmed or started developing yet.

Basically there is no next gen z confirmed , nissan knows they can't sell as many as frs and mustang and they admitted they need better mpg. I smell a brz competitor in like 2018 lol it's 2014 right now. Sucks because I'm in the market for a 35$,000 or under sporty car. If I wasn't saving for house I would get an m228i now.

Yes M235i and definitely different from 335i. M235i is a smaller, 2 door, higher horsepower/tourque car. 335i is a larger 4 door with less umph.

brucelidat 10-09-2014 04:43 PM

My friend actually ordered a 235 and will be doing European delivery in November. He was almost going to get a 228 until I convinced him to not be a wuss. Is the m235 really a M car? It' snot listed with the other Ms on the BMW website. I thought it was just basically a 2 series equivalent of the 335.

You may have done your friend a favor, he'll appreciate the extra power.

I'm not sure if it's a true M car in the BMW sense of the word, regarding it's suspension and driving manners but it's definitely more powerful than the 335i. Maybe DSTLR can chime in, as he has one. There is supposed to be an M2 coming out within the next year or so..

brucelidat 10-09-2014 05:29 PM

Is it more powerful than the 335? I thought they shard the same engine and my friend said the 335 wasn't much heavier, just a bit bigger than he wanted.

Magic Bus 10-09-2014 06:13 PM

I'm pretty sure it's the same engine, just tuned differently. M235i, 320 hp, 330 tq. 335i, 300 hp, 300 tq. M235i is only about 60 lbs lighter.

The car magazine guessers are saying next M2 will come with an increase of approx 30-50 hp/tq plus a sportier suspension.

UNKNOWN_370 10-09-2014 09:48 PM

There are M packages like the M235i
And actual M cars like the upcoming M2 and current M4.
