What are body dampers?

You are correct. On the assembly line, the NISMO Z's do not recieve any additional welds. The older NISMO 350Z's DID in fact recieve additional chassis welds though.

When I was at Tochigi (the assembly plant for Nissan), you could always tell which cars were destined to be a NISM0 on the assembly line. They were the only ones that did not have any of the body work. Apparently the NISMO body work is installed at a different point in the assembly process, different from the standard 370Zs. The same is true for the IPL G37 models.

Those brackets are pretty solid steel. I'd say the parts for the front damper weight about 10 lbs.
