I guess that was better than shooting him and even though I'd be doing society at large a favor, this is CA and I'd be writing this from jail now.

I'd have shot him and told the cops "Officer, I was in fear for my life, he was armed with a joint of unknown substance and threatened to harm me with it..." 
The hosing down was probably the first cleansing he had had in a month...
