I don't know, but it seems like the Village People made a lot of people happy. We could derogate it for being pop or commercial, but satisfying simple pleasure seems to be an important reason for music to exist. Not the only reason, but one of them.

I LOVE old school funk, which ain't far off from disco. I also have liked Daft Punk for a while now and they have exploded with what are essentially disco tunes.

Now, I like Miles Davis, The Clash, The Velvet Underground, etc., so I'll put that out there to prove that I also listen to "good music" and not that garbage that lots of regular people enjoy.

Made a CD/playlist (swapped out the head unit early on) when I first got the Z called "First Drive" for just this sort of thing. That particular playlist has artists ranging from Joe Bonamassa, Blues Traveler, Black Crowes, over to Phil Collins, REM, Lorde.
Other artists I favor in the car are Anders Osborne, Krewella, ZZ Top, Clapton, Billy Joel... My iTunes collection is almost too big. Hard to settle on something to listen to.
