Love the car, but why does EVERYBODY wanna race?!?!

I'm in L.A., and i've only seen 4 370's in the last month on the streets... really weird because this is California< and believe me we see ALL the best, newest, also the most expensive cars out here on the DAILY, so I'm trying to understand why I don't more of the 370's.

And on top of that, I've noticed that almost every single car i'm driving past seems to find the accelerator as soon as they see the Z! Is this happening to anybody else?

It happens to me so much that i'm thinking about making a sign that says "You WIN!!" So glad i'm at a nice mature age where i can control the "speedracer" in me, lol. :driving:

Forrest 09-12-2009 05:23 AM

use to happen to me ALOT with my 05 350z. I would get so many ricer fly byes. So far i have recieved none with the 370z.

NeedforZ 09-12-2009 06:07 AM

I guess I'll blame it on the economy because I still don't see hardly any Z's on the road here in DFW. No one has tried to race me but it's kinda hard to do in morning or evening rush hour traffic when I'm usually on the road.

kenchan 09-12-2009 08:14 AM

That's just the way it is when you have a car like this. Just drive normally as you are. Looks much cooler that way anyway.

tru_Asiatik 09-12-2009 09:28 AM

go to the valley we are all here :D

Snakes709 09-12-2009 09:37 AM

happends to me all the time, makes me laugh when i see a civic fly by. One guy challenged me to a race at the lights and i said "nah, i dont street race, im on my way to the castrol raceway. Why dont you follow me and we will race against each other for $100." he said "f*ck you pussy and did a burn out as he left the lights"

6MT 09-12-2009 09:57 AM

Yeah, that happens to me a lot too. Mostly from young males in their riced up FWD cars. Also, why do people who own WRX's think that the 370 is a "race magnet"? Almost everytime I encounter one, the driver wants to race. I laugh a lot at them and that seems to make them very angry. I have not raced anyone on the street (and don't intend to). But the 370 also seems to attract a lot of tail-gaters. I'm not sure why... maybe it's because of the sexy rear-end on the car (?). And it's really fun to accelerate away from these people and look at their expression as I pull away (very quickly).

Gotta get out of East LA……….

frost 09-12-2009 11:51 AM

Dont have that problem. I think one acura wanted to race and that was about all. Of course I didn't bother wasting the gas.

Everyday my man and don't forget the tailgating whores.

Happens here too, I ignore them, seems to infuriate them ever worse....... I don't even acknowledge them........ fun to observe out of the corner of your eye, as they can't understand why you aren't drooling over their 10 year old piece of sh**, lol........... had a ridiculous looking Dodge Neon trying to race with me on the interstate last week, used the "ignore observe discreetly" method above, drove him nuts until he finally rode off into the sunset begging for a speeding ticket :p

LOL!
First day I went on the highway with my Z a blacked out Neon tried to race me. He sped off and what he didn't know was that a state trooper was hiding down the highway. I'm pretty sure he was going 90+ Hope he got owned. :owned:

funny story this. I was driving down a very long parkway with a stop light at least every 1/8 mile, so naturally its notorious for street racing.. the cops know this. Its about 2am last Saturday, just dropped my girl off after a late show. I'm cruisin along, not many cars on the street, red light stops me. Out of nowhere some headlights come flying up beside me. A yellow Evo 9. Light turns green, and of course this idiot is chirping his BOV at me, accelerating, then slowing down, you know how they do. I notice this, laugh at him, then turn my stereo up to avoid hearing that annoying squeal his BOV keeps making. Were coming past a strip mall parking lot that is a notorious cop hiding spot. So I set my trap. I decellerated to 35mph, downshifted to 2nd and mashed the pedal until I made it to the speed limit of 55. This idiot keeps going, id say to at least between 90-100. Lo and behold, guess who was waiting for him? Our friendly town deputy bill in his whie crown vic and his flashy blue and reds. I drove by, laughed and gave the thumbs up. Street racing is a no-no. Damn noobs.

this happened to me a couple Saturdays ago...I was driving home on a desserted freeway at about 2:30AM, I noticed in my passenger mirror a car hauling *ss up and he braked hard in his Impala to hover along side my car...I sped up a little and he did the same, he braked a little and he did the same...I looked over at him and he played stupid as if he didn't even noticed me or noticed anything weird he's doing. So I slammed on my brake, and pulled 3 car length back, all of a sudden I saw him slam on his brake and pulled back next to me...I looked over again, and he's still acting like he didn't noticed me...so I got pissed off...and once we got over a hump on the freeway and I saw that there were no cars ahead of us for about half a mile, I dropped to 3rd and took off...he tried catching up but couldn't....then I braked and slowed down, and a few seconds later, he zoomed by going over 100 and kept going as if he had won...what's wrong with these fools these days?

Ha! They do it to me in a Miata! I just laugh, cuz I know I can't win a street race -- not that I'd get into one anyway. Let's put more than ZERO curves in the track, though, and I will rip the silly fucktards.

Tinted windows helps in ignoring the freaks.

ppark7384 09-12-2009 05:31 PM

someone needs to make a license plate saying "I Don't Street Race"
It would be badass rocking them on any performance car.

chris410 09-12-2009 06:26 PM

I just ignore or wave them on... Racing on the street is pointless and not worth the risks involved. Usually a thumbs up ends the ordeal in a friendly manner.

lol, a fukkin S40 revved on me just now when I went to subway, his girl was in the car, guess he had to make himself feel better about the POS he drives. I looked at the dude and laughed a big fat santa HO HO HO laugh. BTW, oven roasted chicken breast FTW!

gleonard 09-12-2009 08:23 PM

Funny, I don't get many who want to race, but I do have people who like to block me in on the freeway, and they also love to tailgate, and no matter how far away I park in the lot, when I come out there is a cluster of cars parked next to me.

That's just people being dickheads. They're the people that got their asses handed to them when they were in school on a regular basis, but now that they're an 'adult', the again think they're untouchable. "I'll sue you" is their motto.

I hate that. I NEVER take up two spaces and always pick a decent place to park, mostly off to myself but not so far as to be attracting attention, like the lone auto 50 feet from civilization. Still doesn't matter, you come out of the store and there is that one car (and more often than not in my case, here in the south, it's a pickup), and they are parked right on top of you. You know they are just being a di**head.

Sardis 09-12-2009 08:39 PM

Reminds me of when I first picked up the 350. I was driving on the freeway with a friend, when we notice this Eclipse come up real fast. He proceeds to swerve over in the lane next to us and match our speed perfectly. He had his girlfriend in the car, fairly obvious he wanted to go.

He would just keep gunning it and then slow down, then I would give it a little gas to match his speed, taunting him to no end.

We get off the freeway and are sitting at an intersection. I revved my engine a little and he floored it off the light and I just took off leisurely.

I usually ignore them, but sometimes it's fun to taunt these idiots. I will probably end up getting shot lol

Best answer...valve stem remover.

Especially if they ding your car or make it otherwise a fiasco to get in your car.

I love messing with these people, especially with SRM I do not have to do anything. Cruising at 60, quickly drop to 4th for a few seconds and back to 6th, they start freaking out and get ready to run while I just keep driving normally.

Yeah, I discovered that trick yesterday with the 7AT and a dork in a mustang GT.

GingaBreadMan 09-12-2009 09:14 PM

Everyone is just trying to find out what the Z is capable of. They wanna know if the hype is for real.
IT IS!!!!

Forrest 09-13-2009 05:16 AM

In my 05 350z on a 55mph highway at night time with NOBODY ELSE ON THE ROAD. This dude was driving a Toyota Yaris and he was tail gating me. So he passes me and gets right in front of me and slows down. I figure okay he made a mistake, he realizes he doesnt want to be at this speed, i will pass him and let him be on his way. HELLS NO IF HE DIDNT, he starts to tail gate me again. He passes me and gets in front and slows down yet again. I say okay fine i will pass again you goofey bastard but your really getting on my nerves. So i pass and he tail gates again. He finaly passes me and gets in front of me and slows down yet again.

At this point i am really getting tired of this game so i drove 10mph slower and that seemed to make him happy becuase he stop slowing down and i got rid of him. I was not going to speed and if i have to drive 10mph slower i dont care. I was in no hurry. But in that night, the yaris beat the Z lol.

2 things went through my mind, this is a super crazy person, or this is a calculated person who is probably doing some weird report on how people in "race" cars react to some one messing with them on the road. He probably was trying to get me to speed off at 100mph leaving him no room to tail gate.

AK370Z 09-13-2009 10:53 AM

Two weeks ago, a minivan tried to race me. I didn't know what to do. :icon14: Caught me off guard ...
