Well I guess all the sports car enthusiast's have read and heard about the 370and all are curious, wanting one badly or want to find out if it is all that! When you stand back and look at it there definetly is an attitude of cool and fast.
So we who own one are lucky as hell and challenges are part of the territory because it gives off a bad a$$ attitude!
For the most part we have to be careful on the street but once in a while its real tempting to show some just what it's all about.Sometimes I can't resist and show them what they are up against and it feels real good to.
It's in the blood I guess.Thats why we own one of these incredible machines!

....uh, no thanks. take the challenges to the track.

I should add that in the OC I have yet to have this problem. I generally run across an older crowd, though, the ones with ferraris and porsches. Sometimes I get the highbrowed "lol cheap sports car" look, but most of the time it's a respectful wave between car enthusiasts. I like my home :)

force11111 09-13-2009 03:27 PM

I get ricers in turbo b16 hondas trying to race me all the time. Hell, as fast as some of them go, I'd say they might even have a faster car (never gonna street race to find out though), but at the end of the day they're still driving a 1986 civic with rust spots and primer all over. That makes me smile.

Matt

JungleB 09-13-2009 07:46 PM

I used to run a lot and ricers would race me at stop lights. I could take them for the first couple of feet but then the vtec would kick in and then the auto tranny would hit 2nd gear and I was left in their dust. It had to burn their egos to get taken by a skinny guy on foot off the start.

like I said I don't get many who want to race, but I do get minivans and trucks trying to race past me. It's so ridiculous, I'm not even sure if they're doing it on purpose.

frost 09-13-2009 08:46 PM

Let's settle this with a race.

polarity 09-14-2009 10:27 AM

I get alot of this in Mississippi. My wife and I were driving to a movie last night (around 4pm on a sunday) and someone in a corolla tried to race me. While I do enjoy driving my Z a little faster than I should, racing with the wife in the car is a no no, not because she minds but I'm just not dumb enough to put her in danger. She was laughing pretty hard at this one though.

I would say on average there are at least 3 cars a week that pull this type of thing, either they are flying and lock on their brakes when they get close to match my speed, or they tailgate me for a few miles then go flying past me at 90.

phelan 09-14-2009 10:32 AM

You know what's a bigger problem for me? Getting people to stop c*ckblocking me on the freeway. Try to change lanes and they hurry up and slam the door on me. Ridiculous!

Znewb 09-14-2009 01:44 PM

just got my z on friday and took it up to CT on saturday. encountered 2 older model mustangs trying to get me to race. I didnt even bother looking at them. Then yesterday on my way back from dinner some hyndai pos was trying to. I dont know if i should be taking it as a compliment or if they realllly think theyre car is "better/nicer/fast, etc"

Izzoh 09-14-2009 02:18 PM

Cause you bought a sports car and the Z is the latest and greatest at the moment. As soon as the next big thing comes around you'll start seeing less and less boneheads out there but they'll never completely go away comes with the territory.

:iagree:

happens to me all the time

nicknick 09-14-2009 05:28 PM

I don't have a Zed but sometimes I get raced ( I don't react though) by young girls in crappy pos cars or boy racers in souped up pos cars. I just don't get it, it is like man your driving a pos so put it to rest.

82theZ 09-14-2009 07:43 PM

what amazes me is the people who speed by or rev when they roll next to me have been of all ages, both male and female...wtf. I ain't trying to race grandma on her way to church.

MightyBobo 09-14-2009 11:00 PM

Ironically, I havent had a single attempt to race me in DC/Baltimore.

Hey I live out here in So Cal and trust me everyday I drive there is someone if not a few people that flies by me in their beater car. Mostly Civic, Accord, Mustang, a few Challenger and Charger, sometimes an WRX or EVO. Honestly when they fly by me, it makes me chuckle and smile at the same time because they obviously "expects" you to slam on your gas pedal and catch up and play cat and mouse with them on the street. But I usually end up meeting them at the next redlight with bunch of 16-22 year olds in the car looking out their window with a smirk on their face and out the window saying "hey pussy you wanna run?" and my answer of course to them is "nah it's good I don't jeopardize my life or others life just to prove how shitty your car is." And usually they get really pissed off and just start using the F word and the P word together trying to provoke me. But in the end we all agree that we love our Z's and obviously they're jealous and don't know anything about cars to be tracking it or become a true "enthusiasts" of motor sports. Just a bunch of street racing wannabe's in my opinion. I usually don't pay attention to any of them. And to those god damn tailgating people. Whatever, if they hit me it's their problem and of course those lovely pick-up trucks that thinks their V8 is better than our Z. Word to their mother. Don't mean to be racist but usually they're bunch of white kids and 909'ers who rides dune buggys and dirt bikes. (if this offends anyone I'm sorry, not racist or stereotypical. Purely for examples here in So Cal, or so it seems). Just keep doing what we do best and enjoying our cars for tracking, canyon driving, or just spirited street driving.

Almost everytime I encounter one, the driver wants to race. I laugh a lot at them and that seems to make them very angry. I have not raced anyone on the street (and don't intend to). But the 370 also seems to attract a lot of tail-gaters. I'm not sure why... maybe it's because of the sexy rear-end on the car (?). And it's really fun to accelerate away from these people and look at their expression as I pull away (very quickly).

I've never raced a 350Z/370Z, but I do wanna see how fast they are compared to an STi. Usually, I don't get a chance to pull up next to them because every time they enter the highway, the driver just hammers the gas and takes off. I'm not going to chase anybody down at 100 mph. If I'm in the Camaro, I don't even bother, because I know that 90% of the time I'm going to win.

LETSGOEERS06 10-09-2009 12:44 PM

Well... I currently own a 06 Grand Cherokee Overland and the only thing i have done that you can see is my exhaust... I live in WV so allot of pickups try and race me all damn day. I have a streetjeeps.net sticker but that doesnt mean i want to race them plus its dangerous to race up adn down mountains lol. I hope to get my Z when i move to the DC/MD area

That because the traffic in the Balto/DC metro area is horrendous :)

I get cars wanting to race alot, just raced an IS 350 tonight. I was passing and he speed up so I down shifted and hit it and pull ahead of him by a car or two. I thought he was done so I let off and coasted then he comes zooming by. We were already up there in speed (130) so I didnt hit it again. They can move pretty good too.

Try having an orange car with a big FMIC as your daily driver :P

Only 2 guys who have tried to race me when I was in the Z were driving in a chipped 335 and an M3.

Its about 2am last Saturday, just dropped my girl off after a late show. I'm cruisin along, not many cars on the street, red light stops me. Out of nowhere some headlights come flying up beside me. A yellow Evo 9. Light turns green, and of course this idiot is chirping his BOV at me, accelerating, then slowing down, you know how they do. I notice this, laugh at him, then turn my stereo up to avoid hearing that annoying squeal his BOV keeps making. Were coming past a strip mall parking lot that is a notorious cop hiding spot. So I set my trap. I decellerated to 35mph, downshifted to 2nd and mashed the pedal until I made it to the speed limit of 55. This idiot keeps going, id say to at least between 90-100. Lo and behold, guess who was waiting for him? Our friendly town deputy bill in his whie crown vic and his flashy blue and reds. I drove by, laughed and gave the thumbs up. Street racing is a no-no. Damn noobs.

haha i dont own a Z, but I bet the shoes also on the other foot....

some guy sat in his porsche/ferrari/gtr etc at lights, Z comes up along the side revving loud.
porsche/ferrari/gtr owner looks across and thinks OK, and revs back.

but Guy in Z wasnt even revving for attention, he had forgot to switch off rev match lol.

Now hes sat there feeling as though hes thrown the first punch.

Anyone owners experiencing attention problems from rev match?

Why would SRM kick in when idling at a stoplight? Makes no sense.

Mr Ed 10-20-2009 07:34 AM

i've had 2 moments where

1. some dude in 300ZX (Z32?) was driving on the freeway and starts flashing his lights and beeping his horn at me - and puts his thumbs up as he drove past

2. another dude in a black 350Z (Z33) drove past and gave me the thumbs up.

i love racing at the lights, but one thing i noticed is you have to launch the Z smoothly (under 3000rpms) or you will have tyre squeal and people will think you are a dickhead. :driving:

i've accidently squealed the tyres a few times already... :shakes head:

No, I find it mildly irritating. I'm use to driving MT without it so I just never turn it on. It's a cool feature, but it does very little if your shifting correctly under normal driving conditions.
