No way I would let my daughter or son take my Z to the prom. :)

Man you are a good dad. I begged my mom for months to let me take her GT-R to prom when I was 17, and she told me hell no.

My brother asked if he could take my 370z also. I did not hesitate to say yes. He will take it to prom and bring it right back after prom. He will then take his own car to the after party or whatever him and his friends will be doing that night. You have nothing to worry about. I was just there 4 years ago. It was an amazing night as long as you are responsible about it.

This is a good suggestion. Let him take the Z to the prom, then come home and take his Altima to any after parties he attends.

He sounds like a great kid. He'll remember this forever. Good job, Dad!

I was a little older (18-20) but my dad would let me borrow his 350Z all the time if he wasn't using it. I didn't really do anything stupid in it though as it wasn't my car. I enjoyed the extra power but I did not speed excessively or anything like that. I drove my own cars much worse than his.

The main reason I was eager to drive it back then was my car was kind of a POS (1978 280Z with no power steering, no A/C, no ABS, crappy headlights, etc...) and really sucked driving in the rain or bad weather. Once I got a new car (2006 Subaru Impreza, non-turbo) and it was actually a nice/new car I barely drove my dad's 350z after that.

Is your mom single by any chance?

JWillis72 04-20-2014 06:50 PM

I let him drive to and from my inlaws today ( about 20 miles each way) and he did very well but I would expect nothing less since my last words before getting in the car were "you know your life is on the line right?". His only response was "I know!",at least we have an understanding :)

Now that I'm 23 and owner of a 370z I look back to my 3 years of high school (graduated early and never went to prom) I do wish I would of enjoyed high school a little more, having a Z back then would of been awesome however, there was too much of a racing scene by my high school at the time and it probably would of ended badly; not because I would of wrecked, but because of how jealous high school kids get. At the time I had a 99 eclipse and it felt good to have something sporty. I graduated and got a used 2004 rx8 and I got so many haters after that. So many talking about wanting to steal, break and just do awful things however, nothing ever happened but kids talk sh*t as much as they can but some do act upon it. I don't even want to think what everyone would of done if I had pulled up in my car today lol. I'm sure your son will be fine, he seems like a good responsible kid.

I'm 22 driving a Z... My parents still won't let me take out their Porsche hahah. Good dad though, glad you're showing him you trust him. He definitely won't forget the experience.

Once he has that girl in the car he will have the male urge to show off and at this point switch off the VDC.

You can rent a pretty nice Shelby Mustang from Hertz nowadays.........

Is it odd that I don't have the urge to show off when there is someone in the passenger seat? Attractive female, or just a buddy, my driving is is very subdued when I'm not in the car alone.
