Fast Intentions 12" SS Exhaust

leeyeegue 12-18-2012 10:15 PM

Tints lol

SouthArk370Z 12-18-2012 10:55 PM

My mods are pretty weak compared to most.

First mod was a ScanGaugeII, then:
Passenger seat cover for my dogs
Sound damping from GTMat (free sample)
Pulled SLU fuse
The370Z.com decal

So far, that's it. :) I plan on doing some experimenting with insulating the intake air in the next few weeks.

HArturo319 12-18-2012 10:55 PM

CF NISMO shift knob. Would have done it at the dealership before I drove off but I wanted to drive it off first.

Beginner Mods

Hey guys, my Z is pretty new and I was just wondering what some new beginner mods would be. Obviously not trying to replace the exhaust or anything SUPER to the engine just yet but what are some minor engine mods I can make to increase my performance, make the engine a bit louder and maybe even a bit more fuel efficient, if any of those are even possible. And then if I could get a few appearance mods that you guys have really like as well. Thanks a bunch! Trying to start off small and say maybe spend $300-$400 a month just to budget things out for now.

EndyKwon 04-27-2013 02:07 AM

I should be doing this too:

GT-R Push to Start Button. It's a 'Ohhh a shiny red button!' mod.
1) Get a flathead screw driver
2) Pry out the Push to Start button area with said screw driver, its the silver lining part, start from there.
3) .. God dammit wheres the link. BRB going to edit this post real quick.

http://www.the370z.com/diy-section-d...ternative.html

and iirc, I'm pretty sure there's another thread floating around here talking about this same topic. But to be fair, the search function is harder to use in the forums, so you might want to Google it.

DarkJak 04-27-2013 02:37 AM

Z1 intake tubes+K&N filter or a cold air intake. This would be the cheapest nonexhaust power mod. I'd expect 10-15 hp out of that.

If you drive hard, I think DOT4 brake fluid is a good one. I used to always be scared my fluid would boil coming down from the dragon. Switched to ATE Super Blue, which is pretty cheap and much better than OEM fluid.

I also really liked putting in Swift springs. Reduced body roll quite a bit and lowered the car perfectly for me. Swaybars could be good too. Next to an exhaust, suspension changed the feel of my car the most.

For the budget I would go with Stillen Gen 3 intake, I picked mine up on the forum for $360 shipped, wait and check everyday one will come up around your budget,

Search around, there's at least a billion threads about first mods

K&N drop ins, for performance
Tints, spacers, swifts, GTR stuff, for Appearance

JungleZ 04-27-2013 04:34 AM

Get a proper cat back exhaust system, stock is embarassing quiet for a 3.7

Chuck33079 04-27-2013 05:27 AM

Sway bars would be the first thing I would start with. Then springs and a good alignment. A metal under tray to replace the stock one for peace of mind. Save up a couple of months for an oil cooler. Get a feel for the car before you start adding power. It's fast enough to get away from you bone stock.

forza370z 04-27-2013 10:01 AM

Since your on this great forum now, the first mod for you should be slapping some The370z.com decal on your car!

K&N Drop Ins + z1 MAF Tubes= $150 Used or $200 New

Huck 04-27-2013 10:39 AM

another cheap and easy one is a set of NST pulleys. That with the new belt will run you ~$220 I think and get you around 10-12 horsepower, plus your motor revs smoother and faster. I would take care of handling first, Swifts can be had for $300 and greatly improve the feel of your car's handling, spacers for your wheels, front swaybar, etc.

Samjam1 04-27-2013 11:11 AM

Wow, I looked into all of what you guys posted, and I love them all pretty much. I'm a noob to the car world since this is my first REAL sports car I'm gonna be modifying but I'm building my car IQ slowly. I really love that Stillen Gen 3 intake. I really liked that NST Pulley. I'm looking into the Fast Intentions Cat Back in a few months as well but I honestly really like the stock handling for the Z. The sporty feel, handling and springs on the stock seem close to perfect in what I enjoy. What interested you guys in changing the handling? annnd, the K&N Drop Ins + z1 MAF Tubes, those aren't intakes are they? I can have those in the car WITH a stillen gen 3 intake? or is that not possible.

AND LOL the decal for this forum is a MUST. You guys are all SOO helpful, I can't be more thankful.

Also, what exactly are sway bars good for? And how much does a decent one run? I don't want anythign cheap on my car so if I have to wait before making a purchase, I'll by all means do that. I'm in no rush.

No you can't have K&N + Z1 tubes and Stillen Gen3 at the same time. K&N + Z1 tubes will be around $180 new and give you 5 whp. Stillen G3 is about $500 new and give you about 10 whp. Stillen G3 is cold air intake replace the stock intakes. K&N and z1 tubes are some upgrade add ons to the stock intake.

As for the swaybar, it reduces the body roll thus increases the handling. It's a couple hundred dollors. Hotchkis is what I would recommend.

While you are very welcome to ask us questions, search is your best friend.:) There are already tons of informations on the internet.

First Things First..

Picking up our 370 towards the end of this week, the bf doesn't want to make any changes for at least 2 months..

That said, what would be the first minor changes that you'd make to it?

I really want to change the badge to the FairLady Z badge, and have seen some really cool DIY's on that here.

And he wont tint it for a while either.. but 70% is pretty standard here, although i'm thinking to take permission for a blue / silver mirrored tint. - do you think it would be too much?

Emma

Blue silver tint allowed to UAE locals only or for people who know some people

amoma 07-08-2013 12:53 AM

I know some people ;)

224NismoZ34 07-27-2013 05:41 PM

Tint
Clutch helper spring
Shift knob

markthomas69 07-29-2013 09:50 AM

Sport Brake upgrade.
Michelin Pilot Super Sport tires.
Fumoto oil drain valve.

Zythaxus 08-01-2013 02:24 AM

1. Oil cooler! Overheating problems are the #1 fun drainer, change oil to Redline or whatever good synthetic you want

2. Decide if you will stay N/A OR eventually boost

2a. N/A get an intake g3 are arguably best, or get what you want.

2b. Boost later, just get drop ins for now.

3. Decide on how you want to ride, low for looks or just improve handling.

3a. Low for looks ,get some good coilovers drop it how you want, recommend getting some camber arms too with this choice or you will have bald tires faster.

3b. Even better handling , swift springs - small drop better springrate and better than stock. And or swaybars - hotchkis are good.

4. How loud do you want your car to be and how much more power you want to squeeze out . AKA. Exausts, too many variables to list ,check out the tech area with exaust clips to see where you want to be and what you want to gain.

5. Rest of small mods, pullys , cams, etc for the last little bit of power.

Zythaxus 08-01-2013 02:27 AM

Or you can go for all exterior looks, for a more unique look. But much more expensive per change

Riptide67 08-24-2013 11:09 PM

Mine had a nice dark tint when I bought it.

My mods so far are:

1. Smoked tail lights (left reverse clear)
2. Fast Intentions TDX CBE w/12 inch resonators
3. K&N Drop ins

Not sure what I want to do next, but I have a new set of tail lights coming on the 26th for a project.

mag_black 08-27-2013 12:07 AM

1. Post MAF tubes and drop-ins
2. Swifts
3. Exhaust
4. Camber arms
5. Stillen G3's, Test pipes, UpRev

That's it for this year -- maybe intake manifold and hold off until next year for looks. Maybe I'll bite the bullet and boost. I can only imagine how fun this car will be w/ 450-500 whp under the hood.

/Angelo350Z/ 08-27-2013 12:12 AM

1. 20/25 wheel spacers
2. Swift springs
3. FI CBE

In that order, or at the same time.
