modifying an automatic...

Would I be made fun of if I modify an automatic 370z? Or does it even really matter.

I modified mine, not an issue. Have fun and who cares what other think.

brucelidat 03-24-2014 03:03 PM

what's wrong wiht that? I recommend the 4.08 gears, the biggest difference you'll feel outside of boost

Made fun of for modifying an auto? Nope, lots of guys do it. Listing "street racing" as your interest on your profile is going to get you a ton of flack though.

pedro_eskda 03-24-2014 03:15 PM

So there's basically no difference whatsoever. For example when installing an exhaust

Zteve 03-24-2014 03:16 PM

modifying a car, no. starting silly threads, maybe....

it will sound different when you take off, and also when you shift. MT sounds more melodic.

kenchan 03-24-2014 03:18 PM

AT sounds more moronic.

ok, that was a joke!

No real difference for NA mods. Boost usually doesn't play nice with the 7at though.

Depends on the kit. The VSR Single Turbo Kit works very nicely with the 7AT from what I hear.

Grindkiezer 03-24-2014 03:26 PM

First mod Tranny swap

I'm not talking about a turbo fitting on the car. I'm talking about the fact that the auto can handle less power than the manual.

kenchan 03-24-2014 03:32 PM

why do all the threads that chuck posts all turns into :argue:

XiP 03-24-2014 03:32 PM

everything can be made fun of

you bought a [insert car here]? hahaha
you have [insert transmission type here]? hahaha
you think [insert certain characteristic of car here] is good? hahaha
you think [insert your car here] does well in [insert driving condition here]? hahaha
you spent [insert amount here] on your vehicle? hahaha

hahaha

the more reasons why nissan needs to use an electronic clutch AT next time around. :D

Either am I.

Not looking to argue. All I'm saying is that the VSR Kit works nicely with 7AT.

And yes, your last statement is in fact correct.

The real answer I think depends on how you modify it.

And no offense to anyone that buys AT, but I can't possibly imagine driving a car like this, with automatic transmission. It defeats the entire purpose of having fun with a car as powerful as this, lets not forget gear control. Just my 2 cents

kenchan 03-24-2014 04:06 PM

uh oh...

alcheng 03-24-2014 04:13 PM

as long as no lambo door, blast pipe(?), no -20 degree camber... you are fine.... :icon17:

You have not driven an AT then.......................I can tell from your statement

I've driven other cars of equal or similar power in automatic transmission. Friends cars.

Certainly wasn't the same as Manual.

Last I checked you have full control over shifting gears with the 7AT...

Some might make fun of you for your mods but it doesn't really matter what they think. It's your car, do with it as you like. Put a big wing on top of your Z if that's what trips your trigger. We'll probably make fun of that, but we don't really matter. ;)

Edit: Nothing wrong with an auto. I can drive a manual but prefer an auto for my DD. If my Z were a weekend toy, I'd probably have gone with a manual.

FPenvy 03-24-2014 05:11 PM

oh jesus christ :shakes head:

soooo should i be the guy to defend the OP and his 7AT choice? i mean i guess we gotta stick together.

then i saw he's 17 so i will not troll like you all :stirthepot:

or will i....... :tiphat:

Tadpole 03-24-2014 05:13 PM

Why is everyone hating on the A/T? Silly boys want to play with a stick and stomp on the floor board all the time and thats better? Im all about the A/T and glad I have it.

M/T are dinosaurs and disappearing for a reason guys. :stirthepot:

As far as modding an A/T, not sure about these newer cars with electronics controlling the shift points. With the old school cars you could install a shift kit or powerball it.

What are you looking for out of the tranny any way?

uprev tuner can change your rev limited, line pressures, etc. of the 7AT.

had mine changed slightly along with my dtno tune and its great.

Hmm thanks for the info. I didn't know. The Autos i've driven were older ones. e46 m3, camaro, and evo. Those were fairly quick but a little boring to drive.

But I haven't driven new auto cars :icon14:

yes in manual mode it will not shift up for you but it will down shift so it doesnt stall. i drive mine 99% of the time in MT mode.

Z eliminator 03-24-2014 05:40 PM

7 AT 4.08 gears, full bolt ons.
and a cobb tune.
hang on for life in 1 st and 2 nd gears.
get some big tire 305 35 18 mt drag radials.
12.34 @ 114.14 in the 1/4 mile. 1.800. 60 ft times.
not slow and not boring to drive.
just floor it keep it floored and shift with the paddles. ( do not lift when you change gears.)

drag radials are use less in the rain .

Z
