Default Another dealer scam

So I had my car in for a state inspection back in early february. At the time I picked it up they said everything was in perfect working order. And it was. I had it on a lift not 3 days before doing some work on it and I always check everything I can.

I got the email yesterday which has been attached here. Best part is that two of those items, both about the tires and one in particular being about the tires "cupping/chopping" is the same ******** line they used on me back in october of last year.

I had a nail in each of the passenger side tires so i replaced them anyway. But there was never any "cupping/chopping" as I inspected them along with the tire shop that replaced them in october. These are still perfect. So this email just pisses me off to no end. It is a blatant scam and I'm considering some sort or aggressive action against the dealership for trying this again. And it took a month for them to think of some crap to sell me on. Pretty pissed. I think they took note pf the brand of tire and since it isnt OEM they hate it. They told me my hotchkis sways needed to be removed and put back to stock because of a noise coming from the bushing. Tells you how mod friendly they are.

Anyhow... I know dealers do stuff like this all the time but I've never encountered this level of crap before. Anyway. Mostly just needed to vent. But if anyone has any clever dealer scam stories to share, please do.

Pay attention and watch what the dealerships do. I tell them exactly what I want done and nothing else or they will do it for free. Works like a charm!

State inspection. No choice.

Yeah i could take it somewhere else where they'll charge me. I just hate that they are employing these tactics to scam people.

Pretty typical for a dealer unfortunately to recommend a **** ton of work/parts without even looking at the car. Back when I had the G37, the Infiniti dealer gave me a laundry list of stuff to do. Things like new wiper blades, brake fluid flush, new air intake filters etc... All of which I had done just a few weeks earlier.

My Z was inspected by the same dealer in Feb too (also for free). Not a pep from them, even with my mods. They know better than to mess with me. They realized early on they can't BS me. I gave them a ear full after they insisted that the 370Z came from the factory with regular oil and I should wait until something like 5k miles before switching to synthetic oil when I came in for my first oil change.

you have to take it to a dealership for inspection? that totally sucks.

you can't take it to independent shops that can do that for you?

I highly doubt the GM will give a rats arse about their customers. He's in the money making business himself so I'm sure he's the one pressuring the service department to meet quota or whatever.

The GM probably will send a fake apology letter at most

yeah, I got duped into a four wheel align at around 20k, and I drive like an 80 year old woman. I questioned it, but not enough, I guess.

We don't have to go to the dealer. We can take our Zs to an independent shop but we would then have to pay for the inspection. Most dealers in our area do free state inspections if you bought the car from them.

I feel really bad for those that got suckered into replacing their in-cabin microfiliter or headlight bulb. Whenever my dealership recommends something silly I tell them I just did it recently and ask them why its not showing up on their computer since they track maintenance logs. The look on their face is priceless.

Stuff like this is why I'm glad I live in an area without vehicle inspection.

All that aside, I used to have to deal with state inspections (Vermont), though I have never had to do so with a modded car. How much does it cost on average to have an independent do the inspection? Back in Vermont it was roughly $100, but that was over a decade ago.

The reason I ask is that it kind of sounds like the Jiffy Lube experience to me with that dealership. I can see why they do it, as they would need to be able to do their own vehicles from time to time, and why not soak some money off of people by doing their's and finding "issues". So if you are confident that this is all BS, and unless you can find a way for them to inspect it minus fixing those "issues", I'd tell them to go eat a **** and find some independent shop to do and just pay their charge. Better that than paying $300 for **** you know is working fine.

When I lived in Pennsylvania, you had to bring your car into an 'authorized' inspection shop to get the required safety inspection. Of course, this was ostensibly the same shop that would fix any 'violations' that were found. It was the biggest scam on earth! There was no way you were getting out of the shop without at least $300 worth of repairs just to pass this bogus inspection. I now live in Ohio where there are no such inspections.

My dad said that when he was a kid growing up in Chicago, you had to leave a $5 bill on the front seat or you would never pass.

It's our government keeping us safe!....
