It would be very easy for you to transform a Cobra into a very formidable track car. Street, strip, or road course you can tune the car to shine on either or all. The possibilities are really endless. You're probably not going to get a straight answer from most of the people here because that just isn't a popular car in these parts... but don't let the hate fool you -- you can do a LOT with that car. Aftermarket parts are also a lot cheaper on the Mustangs. |

You can't go by the numbers in magazines. Read up on the car on forums and see what other owners are running. Like mentioned, there are stock 03-04 Cobras running mid-high 12's @ 112+ mph.... That may not sound like a huge difference from the 370Z but it is. It would take quite a few mods to get a 370Z in the mid 12's |
I had a buddy sell his 94 Supra TT for one of theses mustangs.. I thought he was crazy.. but he said he could make 1000hp with less cash then with the supra.. and thats what he did..

Steve is right on the money concerning the Cobra, but you may not want to mess with any of the five liter Mustangs from 1987 on. Spent 4 years racing an 87 LX with Flowmaster exhaust, gutted cats, GT40 intake and headers, pulleys, and a few other minor tweaks and ran consistent 12.8's at the track. No nitrous, on stock tires, and in the summer heat of SE Virginia!
Car only had 225 HP stock and was so easy and fairly inexpensive to squeeze extra horsepower out of it. OK, so the LX was a little lighter than the GT. You will rarely run into any of these Mustangs on the street that are stock, so be careful! |

Sorry haters, its just the way it is - it was a very solid platform. That motor is rock solid, and with some suspension/braking tweaks, its a nice handling car. |
Lol no way a 370z will beat a 03-04 cobra in a straight line with same driver skill. If i'm not mistaken the motor on those cars are very underrated and are handbuilt from the ground up with forged internals. I remember looking at the mustang forums and read someone ran 12.4 on stock cobra.

Again...different drivers could change those numbers so I'm not saying the auto would always be faster than a manual. :icon14: All that being said...the amount of parts available and potential...I wouldn't claim the Z to be beating up on the mustangs...the right mods do make those cars pretty fast. Stock VS Stock...the race would be close with either one having the chance to beat the other. |

and yes a cobra would put several car lengths between it and a Z on the drag strip! |

No, stock VS stock it would not be close. How many times does this have to be said... How many stock 370's are running mid 12's? |

No way no how. They did not call those 03 Cobras Terminators for nothing. That Cobra was hard core and would stomp a 370z on the strip.... I would not be surprised if it could hang with it at the track either since it had IRS and not the solid rear axle like the current GT500. I loved those Cobras!! Get the Sonic Blue and a red Cobra (from GI Joe) emblem for the trunk. Yeah.. that would be hard core.... |

Anyways, I decided I wanted a fast car again and thought I'd try a sports car over a muscle car this time. I sat in a 2009 350Z Roadster at the DC auto show in January and that put the Z bug in my ear. Fell in love with the 370 and here I am. But, that doesn't change the fact that I still bleed Ford Blue. Never will. There's always going to be a Mustang in my life at one point or another... chances are the next will be an '03/'04 Terminator convertible when an extra $25-30k frees up. :) |
