Oh, and yet another thing to look out for... you can order a 2010 GT from the factory WITH a FRPP blower added on. So it's possible that that totally stock 315hp GT is really a factory-optioned 550hp GT. :)

Easy and semi cheap to make it a straight line MONSTER. I agree, I absolutely, love the terminators. Especially mystichrome cobras, but I digress.

If you want street performance aka the fun with torque and for 1/4 mile this car honestly is hard to beat. You want to take a car to a track for some twistys, then the Z will be the best. 2 different realms, both cars are above average comparatively with other stock cars.

+1. The Z is a better road track platform, however I do feel that a lot of people underestimate the Mustang's road track potential.

It might be underestimated, but still. I have owned one, given it was older, but still. Japanese and German cars will always edge out an American car on a real track. But the flip side American will for the most part always win on a drag. No replacement for displacement lol.

As I said in another thread I owned my Mustang a few hard drives ago and lost a lot of the pics. I'll have to dig through and see if I can find any saved.

Anyways, with nothing but a 4.10 gear I ran a 13.5 at only 101 with a 1.997 60'. Very low MPH for that ET, so you can see where all the time came from. I couldn't beat an LS1 in a 1/4 drag but I had a pretty good shot edging them out in the 1/8th. It was always interesting making a pass against a big power car that ran say a 13.4 @ 107. I'd rip out of the hole and then they'd eat me up past the 1000'.

With later mods I probably got the car down to the 13.1 @ 104 territory but never got it back to the 1/4. :hello:

Just comparing it to the Z, my Mustang was much quicker 0-60 and the Z is a lot faster on top end. The 99-04 Mustangs lacked the power to be real top-end monsters without boost. The 05+ are a different story, though. They are a lot more able to lay down the high traps along with the low ETs.

And when the 400+bhp 5.0 liter variation of the current 4.6 rolls around... hello!

Sounds good. I forgot my roomate has 4.10s also. I cant wait to see the new one!

Not really true. Just look at the Corvettes. They will kick *** all over the place.

You can say that Japanese and American cars will always edge an American car out on a real track, but that's not really true. Sure, the Japs and Germans have built a number of cars that are great road-track oriented cars, but so have the Americans.

Same goes for drag racing. You say that the Americans have the advantage... but look at what a lot of the Japanese cars are able to do on the strip... and just look at the massive engines that MB stuffs into their performance cars.

There are A LOT of misperceptions out there. Don't let yourself get caught up in all of that madness.

BTW this is all the same stuff that I tell the domestic guys that are dead set on believing all imported cars are teh suck. Car ignorance, whether it's from the domestic or import side of the isle, sucks!

I tested a 2010 with the "track pack" a couple months ago. It's pretty nice... it has a more aggressive gear than the standard GT and the suspension is a lot stiffer.

It doesn't *feel* as fast as the Z, but it's still pretty quick. You definitely feel the extra size and the extra few hundred pounds. But it's impressive... something like .94G skidpad and a 70mph slalom. Best handling factory Mustang in probably ever. :hello:

Oh geeze, stereotyping a whole countries' cars is the worst idea ever. America has TONS of fantastic road cars, and not everything made in Deutschland or Japan will ever be made in gold. There are plenty of poop boxes over there, too.

My favorite? When people mock LSX motors because they use "inferior pushrod power". That pushrod power in my Camaro made 400 WHP N/A and still got me 30 MPG on the thruway.

My next favorite? When people use this line: "Well, at least my car makes over xxxHP per liter!" That ones rich...

Ford's got the right idea with the Mustang - something I wish Chevrolet did with the Camaro. No reason that car shouldn't have been 400+ lbs lighter....

Deleted my previous post. You're 100% correct. I was not trying to start a typical this car is better than this/ this country makes better. I completely apologize. They all make very road course worthy cars, it just depends on the price range.

With that said, my ultimate goal is to have an E36 M3 with and LS2 swap solely for the track.

m4a1mustang 09-04-2009 01:19 AM

I just want a Terminator vert pushing about 500whp, sweet exhaust, and a little suspension work. Z + Terminator = Steve happy.

Go figure, a guy I kinda knew back in Omaha put one of the 5.3L truck motors into his E30. But, he only drag strips it, no road course sadly :(

Hard to argue with how easy it is to mod those motors, and how well they take them. Not to mention how cheap...

Could you imagine. A ridiculous vert for cruising a nice track car for enjoyment. That would be the life. Better have a daily though if you anywhere with snow. Just have the feeling you may not get around in the winter to well lol.
