I just have to say this everytime I see this comment. Nothing against you. I have an auto. So

But here goes... Going by this logic alone that would make the GTR not a real sports car.

Yup. I said it. The GTR isn't a sports car.

This isn't meant to start any **** or any kind of debate. Honestly, I almost don't care. But I still care just enough to point it out. It isn't an illogical comment. I'll give everyone here a thin mint if they can find a foot operated clutch pedal on the GTR.

----------------------------------------------------------

Back on topic... I did buy the base model with touring package with the intention of upgrading all the things I thought I'd want to upgrade. Then the mod bug hit. Then every upgrade needed upgrading. Then I saw what the bill would have been had I hit purchse on every item I wanted. It went well over $15k not including boost. I wound up mostly regretting not picking up the damn sport package on the lot. If you are like me, you'll do the same.

For what it's worth, I'm currently looking to ditch the Z for a sport/touring or Nismo Z. And I've owned my Z only a year. Just my advice.

I didn't see him say "clutch pedal", just "clutch". So technically, wouldn't that mean the GTR is 2x the sports car?

Back on topic, get the sport package. I can't imagine why there's even an option to go without it.

Sport brings the base car to a lower price point. It's simple business. Most folks will realize the sport package is absolutely worth it and pretty much required. Can things be upgraded to be better? Sure, but the sport package offers a lot off the dealer lot. As to 6MT vs. 7AT this is stupid. The 7AT doesn't make the Z less of a sports car. Some fols need to pull their heads out of their...

I have 2 sports cars and the Z is 7AT while the S2k is 6MT. The 7AT is a great transmission and exactly what I needed this time. I'm sure the 6MT is great too but not what I wanted. That's doesn't make my decision any better just buy what you want.

Id say unless you are going to mod out everything.. Sport package starts you off nicely..

Other stuff is performance related.. like a sportier suspension and stuff that I personally would never be able to notice unless you told me.

7aT is fun..and if you get in that manual mood.. you have paddle shifters.

Same suspension between cars pre-13

This is not entirely correct. Adding the brakes cost a touch over $1k. You cannot add the Nissan nav, but it's very easy to go aftermarket if that's your flavor. And upgrading the Bose system in the touring trim is more difficult.

OP: Which packages make sense depend on your plans for the car. Touring is nice if you like how Nissan has the car packaged.

Sport makes sense if you want a really cost-effective set of baseline modifications. If your goals are for more serious track use, the SRM will be the only item you would miss out on. The VLSD included in the sport package is not going to cut it for serious use, you will likely want wider/lighter wheels, and the Akebono's are probably a step below what you would need for serious use (and, if they are what you want, they are readily available new or used). If your plans aren't so over the top, the upgrades included may well be worth it.

Timing of your planned upgrades will matter as well-if you order some long-lead parts, you might want the sport package in the interim.

I went with base for 2 reasons:
1.) I was on budget
2.) I will eventually replace the factory parts once the car is paid off

-I know how to heel-toe so SRM is a waste for me
-Whether it's base wheel or sports, I will eventually swap them out
-Definitely getting a LSD that is far superior than the factory VLSD
-Only thing I really want from sports package is the akebono brake kit

i can tell you that i know how to heel and toe 2nd nature, but SRM on this car is a nice feature to have since there's throttle lag when you want to blip.

with the SRM, there's no lag.

Base vs sports is $2600. Base is a waste if you want a bbk.

Even if you're not, add up the rays, tires, bbk, spoiler, LSD, euro shocks, chin spoiler and see if they sell for more than $2600 in the for sale threads. Then you keep the syncro and sell the car for more money one day down the road. It's a no brainer and anyone that thinks a base is better is just

Yeah but then you have no spare parts.

I'm not sure those components sell for $2600 more than base components anyways.

Spare parts? What's that?

Well I sold my wheels for $1800. Brakes should be at least $800-1000. But again, when you go to sell you have a more expensive car.
