Thinking of Upgrading from a Dodge Challenger RT too a Nissan 370Z

Have had a 2009 Dodge Challenger Rt and upgraded too a 2012 Dodge Challenger Rt But thinking of UPGRADING to a 2015 Nissan 370z in late Aug or early Sept.
I like the Newer Nissan 370z looks
The rear looks hot and so for the rest of the car also.

Seems that the Nissan 370z has Less Dealerships then Dodge has and I guess
that's why a Z370 can cost more then a Challenger Rt/
Seems 332HP is not a lot comparing too the 380HP I have now and stangs that will have 426Hp.
Just wondering when will be the Next facelift on the 370Zs?
Hate to buy one and the year after there would be something newer.
I was looking at the Newer Stangs Gts but the New ones do nothing for me.
I want to see what the New Camaros will look like for 2015.
And for 2015 the Dodge Challenger will look the same.
Sooooo its nice to have something New like the 370Z too pick from.
I really don't want to pay over $34000 on a 370Z but would want to pay UNDER invoice for one......................JT

I ran r/t with my stock Z and killed it every lap on the quarter. I think the r/t was consistent 14.1-.2 and I run 13.5

The Z weights much less and turns way better

The guy couldn't believe it cause he had much more hp and 2 more cylinders lol

johnnytuinals 01-31-2014 09:58 PM

I can agree with that your car can kick challengers a$$ with a lighter car.
Would be nice to have more HP from a 370Z
I like my Challenger with lots of room inside butttt think I might need a change.
Just wonder will there be change in a 2015 370Z (body style}or will it be a 2016?
Don't really see many 370Zs on the road (same goes with the challengers}
But there are lots of Stangs and Camaros
Have to see a 370Z when the 2015s comes out since I keep my cars for 3 years since the warrenty runs out within 3 years.........JT

cv129 01-31-2014 10:06 PM

I want to see you post this in the rt forum lol, same title and everything

brucelidat 01-31-2014 10:20 PM

No one knows when the next A will be coming out and there are plenty of speculation threads on here. I wouldn't expect one before the 2016 model year.

I agree nobody on the Challengers website would like what I wrote.
But owning 2 challengers and NO changers in sight I feel its best to look for something different.
The 370Z looks hot and would like to see what the 2015s will look like.
Yep I can buy a 2014 but the 2015 is around the corner and really in no rush
till Sept.
Just want to get a good deal
Challengers are $6000 - $7000 off of MSRP
I am sure the 370Zs are not as much off but still want a very good deal off of invoce..............Thanks.JT

brucelidat 01-31-2014 10:59 PM

I got mine for about $1400 below invoice, not sure how much that was below MSRP

I don't see the 370 getting much more hp from the current 332 simply bc it would be very hard to put the power on the pavement with such a light car. My wheels still spins ridiculously with upgraded 285s on 20s in the rear. Nissan should consider a mid or rear engine just saying....

It's rare to see 370s where I live, but I see challengers on a daily bases, besides the srt.

Joepro 02-01-2014 08:29 AM

totally different animals, z is more fun to drive, if you want hp do what I did, bougha used 2010 with 10k miles for 26k, buy a boosted performance turbo kit for 7k, done, 500 rwhp and tire shredding ability beyond your wildest dreams.

johnnytuinals 02-01-2014 08:35 AM

Thanks for the input but want something New with a warrenty.
Vetts are kinda light in weight and they have over 500Hp.
But will check out the 370z and see what kind of a price I can get.Thanks..JT

OP I've heard you mention HP a few times, but how important is handling to you? Handling is the Z's balance to high HP. Once the Z is moving (20 MPH) it holds up well to the higher HP cars in a straight.

Good luck.

this. Z's are more geared towards cornering and handling, than straightline brute quarter mile times. :tiphat:

Joepro 02-01-2014 01:11 PM

Its not hard to lose those high hp cars behind you if there are some twisties involved :) have done it many times.

Luciano13 02-01-2014 02:47 PM

OP u want to upgrade a Challenger R/T to a 370z:confused:
What about upgrade to an SRT8???

gsxr750 02-01-2014 03:29 PM

Before I bought the 370z I drove the 375hp manual challenger and really wasn't impressed, after driving all the sports cars out in 2012 I decided on a 2012 vette with manual and a sports package equivalent.

The 425 hp really beat anything else, even the Z , I would have got the corvette but the dealer screwed up the paint on delivery and cancelled the deal and on the way home I spotted my pearl 370z on display, and bought it on the spot.

Hind sight I should have waited for the dealer to get another vette , the 330hp of the Z is just to little.

Also with the challenger, as much as I love mopars , my father had a 1969 440 rt charger
and got to drive it when I was 12. The challengers interior just really looks to cheap, like and old 80's dodge van , Rubber Maid garbage can material look.

Now if Dodge would only make a real 1969 or 1970 charger again, with 2 doors and 425 hp again , not a Chrysler 300 with Charger emblems on it.

You should really test drive the new camaro, mustang and even the new vette if you can afford it.

While the new vette is probably the best deal out there right now, I really wish I had a back seat in the Z, you really find most ppl getting rid of a 2 seat sports car due to it being to small, than ppl going the other way from bigger to smaller.

I see the 370Z getting a big boost in HP to compete or it may as well drive off into the sunset. Power to the pavement, eh? Lots of cars of similar weight or much less are doing 0-60 in less than 4.5 secs. No reason why the Z can't. Put beefier tires on the back.

johnnytuinals 02-01-2014 07:22 PM

I can afford a SRT but really hate too spend $45,000 on a car
A friend was telling me how a Lower HP Porche could beat a 500Hp Vette in a 1/4 mile(makes no sense too me}
As I said the reason I might think of a change is cause I owned a 2009 and 2012 RT but Thought Dodge would be doing some kind of a upgrade(guess I am wrong } But looking at pictures online of the 370z I feel that can be my next car .That's why I want to know about a near future upgrade in looks of the 370Z...........JT

Luciano13 02-01-2014 09:36 PM

Possibly 2015......if its still in production:stirthepot:

johnnytuinals 02-01-2014 10:13 PM

As of now I have no clue what I want after speaking to a friend.
A friend tells me that the V6s sound like Ricers or indy type of cars and nothing like a big block engine. Since the Rpm of the challneger are 6000 - 7000 and I am sure the 370Z are a lot higher in the RPMs?.....I do like the RUMBLE of a car even if a 370Z is faster and
not having that American Rumble sound........Thanks all for your input.JT

...aaand it just got a little trollish, didn't it?

I'm going to come across like a jerk, but here are a few of my immediate thoughts:

1) Have you ever been in any V6 powered car?
2) You've managed to find this 370Z community online, but you haven't browsed YouTube for 370Z videos to listen for yourself?*
3) You are relying on a friend to tell you what a Z sounds like...and you're surprised to find out a 3.7L V6 doesn't sound like a big block V8?
4) The Challenger R/T's 5.7L redline is 5800 rpm. The 6.1L's is 6400. The Z's is 7500 rpm.
5) Why would you be looking for "that American Rumble" in a Japanese V6-powered sports car?

I agree that rumbly V8's can sound ridiculously good, but referring to the VQ37's admittedly quiet stock exhaust note as "ricer" sounds like it comes from a guy who would scoff at a S2000 or NSX as a "rice rocket" from behind the wheel of his clapped-out 4th gen Camaro.

*Winding Road made a 370Z YouTube clip that is a great intro to how the Z sounds:

http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=nAaZ-4Uq570

johnnytuinals 02-02-2014 07:49 AM

I can agree a 370Z might kick a Challengers or Camaros butt
As a lot of imports that can also kick A$$ of many of the American cars.
But I forgot about the Big block sound
I know what Porches Lambos and many Japanese cars sounds like at a red light and yes
once they take off it will make a american car look foolish since the Import will be at the next stop light waiting for the American car to catch up......But I do love the big block sound and still not sure if that's a deal breaker...Thanks.JT

IDZRVIT 02-02-2014 08:06 AM

Oh my, you are misinformed. There are a few American made cars that are pdq and will see all but a few offshore cars in the rear view. Anyway, you can make anything go fast if one has the money.

It was quite obvious from the get go...but the point is we weren't aroused by it and didn't start bashing him or his car....we are above that on this forum.

Glad you weren't "aroused" by it; that would just be weird.

And yes, no one ever has bashed a troll on this virtuous slice of the interwebs. /sarcasm

Guess you haven't come across JungleZ or any other serial troll. Those guys have earned their bashing.

Now now lets play nice on the "370z" forum. Theses VQ sound great with some mod..... Just like the V8 challenger, u need mods for it to rumble.

This is V6 with mods.....

The 370Z sounds good ,I guess I will have to check the cars on youtube and see how Most sound stock......

2010 Challenger Exhaust Comparison - YouTube

IDZRVIT 02-02-2014 02:08 PM

You want rumble? Change the stock cam to something with longer duration with a lower lsa like 108. Now, go google and then come back with a better understanding of what gives an engine that nice rumble that you seek. Exhaust and cai doesn't do it. Btw, I'm referring to American engines where you can actually change the cam and it's a relatively easy mod.

Duc_Z09 02-02-2014 03:19 PM

OP: It sounds like what you're looking for is a 2011+ 5.0 Mustang. Stock vs stock it will beat an SS Camaro and absolutely eat your Challenger for breakfast.

SmileyZ 02-03-2014 09:29 PM

Should I get a Suburban or a GT500?... Why do people always want to compare cars that are completely different concepts? I see that on the forum from time to time and it makes no sense. If you are going to troll at least try harder!!

Firebase99 02-04-2014 07:18 AM

I test drove a 13 RT before I got the 370. Its a nice big muscle car and has quite literally NOTHING in common with a 370. I mean NOTHING. No offense to OP but...it handles like an aircraft carrier, the interior is sub par, and for 375HP, it really didn't feel all that quick.

Not to mention, 375hp is nothing for a v8 muscle car anymore. Hell, my NISMO makes 350 with a v6 and weighs about 800lbs less...

Mustang Boss 302 FTW!:bowrofl:

Infidel 02-04-2014 08:31 AM

Money cures slow cars. If a FI Z is too slow then it's not your car...period! If 45K is nothing to you then spend a little more and get a Stingray with the Z51 package and call it a day, otherwise there are meds that will help you get through life easier. :tiphat:

ZKraken22 02-04-2014 08:31 AM

We might know the direction of the next Z Fall Of 2014 or 2015 winter. But i don't see The Next Z coming out until 2016.

To the OP's defense, he didn't say 45 large was nothing, only he could afford it. A C7 will cost $60K out the door.

Pistons132 02-04-2014 11:21 AM

I own a 2013 Challenger R/T, and to be honest I don't know how you don't love the car? I think it's a splendid vehicle. It's a slowpoke compared to the SS, 5.0 and the 370z, but the thing is will you see those cars at every light? The 370 looks marvelous but to just give up on your R/T seems a little harsh, have you took off the resonators? Added headers or cams? The Challenger is slow but not that slow, just cause the above mentioned cars are 2 car lengths ahead of you doesn't mean your car is a slug. I can honestly say I crave more power at times, but then I'm reminded that the Challenger is quick for it's size and it provides me with the most comfortable driving. On top of that I don't get confused for a jackass in a 5.0 or a muchacha in a Camaro. If I have a kid on accident, I won't sweat it, the challenger can fit a baby seat easily. I'd wait until the 2015 Challenger is unveiled, there's going to be engine changes and a brand new interior. My brother is getting a 370z that's why I joined this forum, but from an R/T owner don't give up on your pig, the pig is vastly different from other vehicles, don't let people get in your head about horsepower. The RT was never in the game to win races, get an SRT Core or Super bee for 35k and call it a day.

Chuck33079 02-04-2014 12:08 PM

I wouldn't mind a Challenger if it didn't mean I'd have to buy a Chrysler product. Bob Dylan be damned, they are not allowed to build my car.

Pistons132 02-04-2014 12:34 PM

Lol, 370's are hardly seen, I was referring to the Camaro and Mustang. I love the 370's but at 23 with a long drive to work, I can't have one. Hopefully Chrysler gets better though, since Fiat just bought them. Well, bought remaining shares.
