I'm just relating a story as it happened to me, and my experience with the tire in question.
Hey Import Convert...you know what? I ditched my Potenzas! LOL. Seriously. Your post got me thinking and I started searching alternatives. Sure enough...there are much better alternatives to the RE-050A's out there. I ordered a set of Potenza S-04's. You're right...the Pilot Super Sports are pretty much the top of the line, but the S-04's run a very close second for about 30% less for the set ($800 vs $1200 at Tire Rack). My son's a Chevy service tech...he'll mount and balance them for free. All I need is four jackstands. Tires will be delivered Monday.

The OEM tires come out at the bottom of this list, although they're the most expensive tires on it....

I just need to find a buyer for my OEM tires with 4 miles on them...

keep in mind that the treadwear rating for the pss is better, so they will likely last longer. you'll end up having to replace the s-04's sooner, somewhat negating the price advantage. whether you'll get 30% longer life from the pss i don't know.

Really doubt it, but it doesn't matter. I only need the tires to last about 16,000 miles with enough tread that I don't have to replace them right before the lease expires. The RE-050A's certainly don't meet that criteria.

I've had my S04s for almost a year now - they're great tires, way better than the stock RE050A tires (especially in the rain)!

Another tire replacement candidate - Bridgestone Potenza S-04 Pole Position
