Question clicking sound at low speed?

Does anyone else have this issue? My car makes a clicking sound when moving at low speeds like in parking lots, in low gear like 1st or 2nd with clutch fully engaged. It's not a continous sound, but more like a sporadic individual click. It mostly happens only if I rapidly press or lift off the throttle pedal, and makes an individual click sound. Doesn't seem to happen if the clutch is disengaged or the car in neutral. I read about rear axle problems, but the sound seems to be coming from the engine bay, not the back of the car.

Could it be that the springs in the clutch disc are weak and cause the two halves of the disc's hub to bang against each other when torque is loaded and unloaded?

Search for this for more details - its your rear axle clicking - go to dealer and show him... they will cover it for free

Anyone here a *clunk*?

Check the link above. I had the same issue and they replaced both rear axles (with CV joints).

Yeah, I heard about the rear axle thing. But in my car the sound seems to come from the front. If it's a rear axle why only at low speed and in low gear?

Because the CV joints are flexing slowly enough. There's either a flat spot on the balls for the CV joint, or in the grooves for the CV joint - that's how they go bad!

Have you taken it to the dealer yet? I have the same exact problem and it seems to be getting worse everyday(more clicking). Gonna take it to the dealer tomorrow and have it checked up. Hopefully nothing too bad.

I took my 370 in last week for the third time for this. turns out nissan has put out a bulletin on the rear axles. Diff needs to be opend and axles need to be greased. then rotated 180 degrees and have everything installed and torqued. there are some new parts invloved but they are jsut washers and coder pins. its all under warranty. My car feels soo good now. more responsive at low gears and NO MORE CLICKING SOUND! also i got to put 1000 miles on a brand new loner altima in a week. LoL

Here's another thread on the same issue. And no, rear-end noise does not mean you have excessive gas.

I've been noticing the same thing with mine. It's also coming from the front not the back and it seems to happen when I'm bringing the car to a stop. I've got the 7 speed.

My brakes emit clicking sounds, every now and then. I've read it's "normal" in Zs, though. She stops fine, so I ignore them. But, from the engine bay...hmmm...

ok here it is off my invoice:
tech notes-tech was adised from tech line to perform bulletin on noise from axels. "note" this is a temp fix, if noise comes back on need to conact nissan. Tech removed both rear axels, regreased them, and turned them 180 degrees from their original spot.
DAT: 40073-0L700 Sympt code: ZL DIAG CODE: 46

ok so after this maintence was done I felt a WORLD! of difference. The car is way torqier. Also my VDC doesnt ingage so pointlessly. I used to give the car some gas and the VDC would just kick in at very little torque. Sooo....my guess was the "looseness" in the fangs inside the pumpkin where triping the VDC into thinking slip. bottom line....after having my car for 4 months, I finally took it for its first real drive today and felt what she should have been like the whole time.

Dealer info:
Nissan of Visalia
(559) 734-3333

if this helps then please hit me up for cred points...lol thanks.

What actually makes the 'clicking'? Are the splines of the shafts entering the hubs slipping?
