I've done this before. I had the keys on me in my pocket but actually it was my dad who was driving the car. He dropped me off at the front of the store and then parked pretty far back to wait for me. The car kept going but it did tell him that there were no keys as he drove away. Of course once he turned off the car he was unable to turn it back on to listen to the radio as he waited. Nothing was disabled though till that point of him turning off the car.
