370Z Purple/Pearlish Paint Defects

I took it to my paint guy and he said it looks like moisture got on the car before they did the clear coat and is trapped in between the red and clear. So, his concern was that it may try to come out someday and mess up the paint.

I took the car back today and told them I wasn't satisfied and just don't even want it anymore. It is rediculous to spend this much money on a car and it not be PERFECT...I'm tired of messing with it. As I was leaving the lot, I stopped at the red (lower end model) they have on display...it has the same crap on it...purple/pearlish spots in the paint....REDICULOUS!!!!

Nissan really needs to check the quality controls on their paint process!!!!

Ifeel the need to reply to this ,as my RED G T R, IS having the same problem.I live in the uk but have never bought a RED car before.I have very soft paint with very small raised spots,also bird poo is etching right into the paint .Nissan is investigating.While the garage has offered to buff the paint.I think this is stupid to try this. I will keep you posted on this.I previously owned 2 350z s,but they were metallic silver/blue,no probs with them.P J T paul from uk

WOW...that stinks and I feel your pain! My Dad actually has a red GT-R as well but I haven't had a chance to really look at it closely to see if it may have the same problem too (he's out of state). I will get to see it here in a week or so and I will be looking for defects!!! I'll let you know what I find.

I have a 09 Red Z (picked up in September) and I also noticed that bug splatters and/or water spots will etch the paint pretty easily if not removed right away. But I just recently put on some good wax (3M) that I've used before on my previous red cars, and its always worked well. So hopefully that helps. I also have quite a bit of orange peel in both bumpers which annoys me a bit... but the rest of the car looks good. Its just the bumpers that dont look the best.

Has anyone tried machine buffing (or even wet sanding) the bumpers to smooth out the clear coat a bit?

Just finished polishing mine with meguires swirl remover. Goodby scratches and blems. This was my first time using a power tool on the paint. Looks fantastic in the florida sun. 81 degrees today.
