I think that is actually manageable and both context and the "reasonable person" standard would make it not too difficult to call out. We can make adult decisions about when someone is hiding behind a cleaver lay crafted "hypothetical."

I think there is a difference between discussing illegal behavior as the primary theme of a thread, discussing technical matters or other issues that might be in the context of some questionable (or outright illegal) behavior, and discussing performance in an unfortunate context of illegal behavior. It also begs the question of where the limits are; e.g, my car shutters at 80 mph on the highway.

Having said this, I will again recognize the previous reasonable position that the mods made that they (through their ample experience) shut things down when they see the likely explicit discussion of illegal behavior coming even when it was only intimated in the actual thread. I haven't blogged in their shoes so to speak.

Streets closed pizza boy!

Someone will always bring up illegal activities, because kids are proud of it for some dumb reason. Even if the intent wasn't geared towards those activities, like chuck said, it's going to get there.

This totally misses the point. I don't think illegal racing should be discussed here.

1) Discussing street racing is against the rules. Doesn't matter whether or not I (or anybody else) like it, that's The Rules as set by the owner. If one doesn't like it, one is free to use a site that allows such things or start one's own site.

2) As far as I can tell, the mods are volunteers and probably don't have the time to carefully parse every statement in every post. If it looks like a duck, they shoot it. I've admin'd and mod'd on several sites - it's not a fun job and can demand a lot of one's time.

3) Personally, I think a few threads have been needlessly/prematurely locked, but then I refer myself to item #1. I suppose if I felt strongly enough about a particular thread getting locked, I'd send a polite PM about it to a mod.

Street racing has been a felony for quite sometime.
What you post these days is like signing a notary and can be used in court. Posting about street racing in forums can have serious legal repercussions for everyone.

Again, easily dealt with. Moreover, the issue of the theme of the thread versus a little bit of context matters and would be an easy and helpful measure.

I guess I think the notion of someone killing themselves because the mods used a little more discretion before closing a thread is either hyperbole or a red herring. I think folks are taking the presence of "hypothetical" to an illogical, unnecessary, and not intended extreme. I don't argue with the explanation that was ultimately given (again I point out),but some of the other discussion has been off target to incompletely reasoned.

I don't think street racing should be discussed here. That was never my point.

I expressed my appreciation for the mods and the very reasonably reply provided.

PMs are fine, except where one is inviting a thoughtful discussion, which is why it was inappropriate for me to send a PM.

I didn't word that very well. I should have made #1 a general statement and not about street racing in particular.

It was meant for general consumption and not directed at you. The subject is certainly worthy of discussion and you make some good points.

I can see where this thread is going. There is only one way SouthArk370Z and H2O_Doc can settle this: a street race.
