Then the engine died, and I was just coasting at 50 mph on an apex turn. Wow, that scared the **** out of me, no power steering and no power brakes. Anyway waiting for a flatbed and back to the store.. Can't wait until Monday to figure out the eff it was.

Timing chain(s) slip or breakage or crank (bolt?).

Now I'm glad I spent the $1200 on a 6yr / 75K "everything" warranty :)

I opted for the 4 year 100K one thinking my Z was going to be a daily driver...but I was lucky and picked up a beater in great shape and rebuilt motor for $1200. Now the Z is a garage queen thats driven only on weekends...so I doubt I will ever make it to 100K in four years.

I think if this were a problem with the 370Z in general we would have heard more reported happenings by now. It is probably just a one-off quality issue and nothing for anyone to really loose sleep over except the OP.

I wouldn't worry about it. If I had to guess, Im leaning towards crank sensor.

My thoughts exactly.

That was my reasoning behind going 75K instead of more. :)

My dealer gives a free lifetime powertrain warranty to the original owner on a new purchase, nice insurance.

If I owned a dealership I would have had a Tech in their on Sunday checking this baby out. Hopefully just a fluke thing

VVEL DC Motor, just a guess...

ENT-Z 08-09-2009 01:02 PM

I just hope the dealer doesn't void your warranty with the aftermarket parts you have on...

Sorry, couldn't help myself! Seriously, that sucks Lou. Nice thing is, for however long yours is down, you can just hop in another one and take off :)

I had the exact same thing happen to me with my Cadillac CTS after only 3000 miles. It was a blown fuel pump. The worst part for me was it happened when I was in Southern VA in the middle of nowhere, but there happened to be a tiny Cadillac dealer that literally only had 2 cars in stock. GM gave me a crummy rental to get home with. The repair took 3 days. I wanted GM to bring the car up to me because it was a 9 hour round trip. GM refused to flatbed it or even DX the car. I had to take a day off work and pay for all of that gas in the rental to pick it up. This was when gas was about $4.50 a gallon. Cadillac refused to compensate me at all. That was when I knew that my relationship with that car would be brief. The little latino girl slamming in to the back of it with her Versa just sped up the seperation.

I hope this problem is resolved for you rather quickly, man.
