Dude, that's because they're trying to get a rotary to not break. Once they figure that out, we'll get a new RX7.

I read a few months ago that Mazda wasn't able to make the Wankle feasible in the long term for purely gasoline use. It pretty much put the nail in the coffin for a new RX-7. A new sports car isn't out of the question, but chances are, it won't be a rotary.

Not a shock there. It's either naturally aspirated and gets bad gas mileage with mediocre reliability and no power, or turboed and blows up if you look at it funny.
