Jasonle 09-11-2013 08:49 AM

damn! Bad luck man

Chuck33079 09-11-2013 08:50 AM

She's paying for it, right?

enkei2k 09-11-2013 08:53 AM

This is why I always try to park as far away as possible (extra exercise is a bonus), or park next to a car that looks like the owner takes care of.

Minsu 09-11-2013 08:56 AM

Luckily the cop was right there and saw the whole thing. So the lady said let's not go through insurance and to send her the estimate. And mind you the cop was there with us while we talked. I'm taking it to a body shop today after I'm done registering get an estimate and then fax it to get. I got the cops info and get insurance and drivers license so hopefully it all goes well. Maybe I should get an amuse rear heh.

Did she just get her license?

They should revoke it, if you cant make it out of the DMV without hitting a car they need to go back in and hand their license back and stay away from cars for a minimum of 5 years.

Chuck33079 09-11-2013 08:57 AM

That sounds like a recipe for disaster. Hopefully she doesn't weasel out when she sees the bill. You hit me, I'm going through your insurance. I give zero ***** that your rates will go up. Maybe you shouldn't have hit me then.

fonzo179 09-11-2013 08:58 AM

D@mn, brother. Sorry to see that. Hope everything turns out alright.

Minsu 09-11-2013 08:59 AM

Chuck33079 09-11-2013 09:00 AM

I'd rather deal with the Carfax hit than having to deal with taking the other driver to court when they balk at the amout of the repair or develop amnesia.

TheZstore sells bumpers cheap.

Assume $500-700 for the bumper, $300 for the tail light (I recommend you eBay one with your check)

Mt Tam I am 09-11-2013 09:04 AM

Rotten way to start the day, just with DMV alone but worse with this. Sorry.

1st 09-11-2013 09:14 AM

I'm with Chuck on this. Go through insurance. I’m pretty sure she will blow an O-Ring once she sees how much it is to fix the Z. The body shop can whip up any color with the code. Amuse rear gross! Anyways that sucks man I believe this is your 2nd hit the other being your side skirt I think I read on another post. Maybe you might be able to handle both issues at once.

Minsu 09-11-2013 09:25 AM

What are nissan full pricing for bumper and taillight though. And I drive it to a body shop and something is rattling sigh. She hit me at under five miles an hour wtf could.have gotten loose

Chuck33079 09-11-2013 09:28 AM

Get an estimate from the dealer, and two other high end body shops. Average the three together and that's what she pays. If she balks, go to insurance. The car's brand new, it should look brand new when they're done with it. If you can source the replacement parts cheaper, then do so. Just because you save money doesn't mean she gets to. Don't forget to add in your rental car costs while the car's in the shop.

Damn hommie no good hopefully that amuse happends though :)

Cmike2780 09-11-2013 09:49 AM

Go through insurance. It's not worth the headache, trust me. It's gonna show on carfax, but so what? If anything, that's being honest to the next owner if you plan to sell it later. It's doesn't look too bad to be honest, but certainly ruined your day. You're lucky it didn't damage the rear quarter. That's a pain to fix/replace. New tail light and bumper and she'll be good as new. You'll need a place to color match the paint no matter what, so going with an amuse bumper isn't much of a difference.

olddudesrule 09-11-2013 09:54 AM

Always, always, always get it documented (ie.e a police report of some sort)!! I'm all for getting it repaired w/o involving the insurance companies, but as others have mentioned, I've seen far too many times when people have called us, after the fact, to report an accident because the the other party has refused to hold up to their end of the bargain. Without that report, you all know what their insurance company is gonna say....."sorry, we don't have any record of that accident happening. Do you have a police report number???" When the answer is no, you're left with the choice of eating the repairs, or taking the other party to civil court, and again, who is your witness??

Bottom line, having the documentation is your ace in the hole if they decide to flake on you. BTW, around here, accidents in parking lots only get you a contact report anyway, unless someone is injured, or the other party is DUI....

street2soul 09-11-2013 10:01 AM

cheer up man, my nismo was rear ended last week and I also know what you're going through. i feel like strangling someone everyday.
if she won't pay the full price, claim her insurance with the highest quote. also beware that, if you don't go through insurance, you won't get any supplement fees for fixing the damage when the bodyshop finds more internal damage.

:iagree:

kenchan 09-11-2013 10:16 AM

sorry to hear. :(

yah, dmv is home to sucky drivers (brand new and very old) so i park waay far when i need to go there.
usually i can do everything online to renew, so i take advantage of that.

also remember the same near airports. you got lots of visitors from out of state that are unfamiliar with the area and the rental. :icon14:

GL with the repairs.

Minsu 09-11-2013 10:17 AM

It's the body shop told me about that. Still here btw damn body shop

Minsu 09-11-2013 10:44 AM

so im deciding to go with the cash option, she really didnt hit me hard enough for internal damage and if there is the body shop will let me know, the estimate came out to 1488.85 so the tail light is around 300, and the amuse rear is how much? and then paint match, replace and everything and whatnot. I drove it again afterwards and there was no rattle but im sure the first time i heard rattle was because the brackets got loose cause the area i got hit the bumper moves in and out and its not like that on the other side. Sigh....guess the amuse is gonna happen three years ahead of time....

V8Killer 09-11-2013 10:46 AM

I hate to say it man but you should have went through insurance. This is going to be more of a headache now.

You think you'll be able to go back after the woman again for more cash if there's more damage?

You're saying the total with a new bumper, taillight and body work is $1500, or just the labor?

Your car isn't undriveable. Don't be in such a rush to get the situation resolved. You'll end up unhappy long term.

Minsu 09-11-2013 10:53 AM

1500 is everything together Parts/Paint/Replacement/ect.
Yea no rush im gonna take it to two other body shops and get estimates.
And like i said before she hit me at under 5mph and she didnt hit it was more or nudge then CRAAAAAAAAK. I understand you chuck about future damages and the body shop told me that if they find anything they will let me know right away. And what i got was a PRELIMINARY estimate and i called and told the woman that im not gonna receive the cash for prelim but the FINAL estimate. and if not i can just go to the cop b/c he gave me his info and i can just put it up with him.

Also how much is it for JUST the amuse rear the replica one.
and the Spoiler as well just for giggles. Do companies just sell rears?

Chuck33079 09-11-2013 10:57 AM

Good, take your time. Your car still gets you from point A to point B, so it's not like you're stuck. Go to good body shops. Definitely get a quote from the dealer's body shop. $5 says it's the highest. Make sure the shop that fixes it does a good job, even if it's not the cheapest one. CHeap bodywork looks cheap. Get something from the dumb twat for a rental car, since you'll be without transportation for a couple of days while it's being fixed.

Minsu 09-11-2013 11:00 AM

I have another car that hopefully i can drive.
And even the dealer gives estimates? Didnt know that.
Oh and...got my plates lol no more temp tag! i guess...
Can anyone recommend me a good shop in NJ...
Thanks.

She doesn't need to know you don't have to rent a car. ;)

The dealer will have a body shop they use. Go there. It's most likely the highest estimate you'll get.

street2soul 09-11-2013 11:24 AM

it can't possibly be $1500 for a brand new bumper and taillight... can it?

replacement on my bumper was quoted at $1850, whereas repair was~$900.
but mine was a Nismo.
it's expensive because they will have to replace the new emblems and 370Z Logos

coolvans1988 09-11-2013 11:57 AM

Yeah seems too much for not that much repairs to be done.
If i were to self damage my bumper by accident, i would of hold of on the repairs
and not dropping $1500+.

But anyways, good luck

Cmike2780 09-11-2013 12:09 PM

$1,500 sounds low for parts, paint and labor. Emblems alone are like $50-$100. You can find a brand new unpainted Nismo bumper for around $800 plus shipping, so I'm assuming its a bit less. That's Internet price though, I see what the dealer charges.
