Kinda funny...with how beefy the Camaros are, I thought for sure we could take them. Whenever I chat cars with my neighbor (Mr. Cobra), he voluntarily says that he thinks my car (roadster = the "slow" Z) could take his if it was a track where handling/cornering was involved.

Curious what everybody thought of that comment by him.

$10 says his Camaro would kick your āss up and down the track too. From what I have read on this site, the 5.0 stock (maybe with the track package?) is impossible for us to beat without serious mods

If we make the qualifications specific enough, you can beat anything. Same year, same price, stock, no turbos, same color, same number of cupholders, etc.

And OP, where are you getting 2011 M3s and 911s for $40k?

Yeah, maybe '09. Got my 2008 ISF in... 2011 with 5000 miles for $40.5k, and that's because the owner just didn't want it, otherwise it should've been $43-44k

But it isn't NA, so it doesn't meet the OP's criteria. I'm not sure why the distinction was made if we're talking about stock cars. Modded, it makes sense.

You are correct. I forgot N/A part.

Mod's do take in account in what our car can do, but if you have a 10 sec car and a 14 sec driver you really think that car is still going to do 10 sec in the 1/4? Uh NO. We aren't supposed to talk about street racing but here is an example. I have put my car against a manual camaro ss 2011. All I had was k&n drop in air filters and a stillen ud pulley. No contest and I banged every gear on the money. When we pulled in the mcd's parking lot he had exhaust and intake done to his car and asked what I had done. He really thought I had a bunch of mods. To me it is down to the driver, stock 06 gto 6.0 been there done that, 2valve mustangs full boltons, 2000 camaro ss exhaust, n/a cobra with girlfriend in the passenger seat winking at me as I passed by ya did that too and the girl in it that night. So on paper anybody and everything is fast and slow, it's what you do with your vehicle when the time comes is what reality is. Sorry for the rant, but I just find this thread funny to me anything is possible with the right conditions. We have a guy on the forum who ran a stock Z on street tires in 12.9 he can drive his *** off:driving:

Well your neighbor is partially correct, the convertible is the slower Z... Its heavier and has the same HP. Base Z will beat you in your vert if the drivers are equal...

If I'm not mistaken you vert Z weighs around 3600 pounds vs base Z that weighs around 3200 pounds. Every 100 pounds is equivelent to 10 hp or a tenth at the track (rule of thumb numbers).

So if your concerned and want to be faster without modding your motor then put your Z on a diet.

A lotus Elise with 190 HP would destroy your Z simply due to power to weight ratio.

Not in a straight line.

OP's car is a 370z Vert 1/4 mile is around 13.5
Lotus Elise 1/4 mile 13.3

So YES in a straight line the Lotus elise with 189 Hp would beat the Ops car meeting his criteria of NO forced induction.

Chuck33079 09-10-2013 02:50 PM

Depends on driver and year. Moter trend got a 13.5 out of theirs- 2005 Lotus Elise - First Drive & Road Test Review - Motor Trend

I learned really quickly after i leased this car that its not a stop light car, if i dont get a perfect launch im struggling to get past a V6 Camry/Accord. This car has barely any low end torque especially on the manual tranny.

Even though ive launched faster than 335i's, evos, stis because im a good driver, those cars do it easier.

Also the GT 5.0 has dusted me every time by a full car length.
