Nismo air system/Nismo Pipes
 

Hi,
I am new to forum. I just bought a gun metal grey 2013 370. Standard. It had 150 miles on it. Dealer drove it down from Hickory NC to Raleigh NC. Last Z I had was a 1978 280, back in 1982.

My question is, I've been told I'd get better gas mileage with an upgrade to Nismo Pipes and Nismo intake. I know it'd sound better. Also I don't want to void the warranty. For around 2 grand. I don't want to me it crazy fast or anything. Guy at Nissan also stated it would bump my hp up to around 350 and would be faster than the Nismo due to the weight difference. Any experts around?

I would do research in the intake and exhaust section. He just trying to sell expensive nismo products. Nothing wrong with nismo parts. But you can get a better exhaust for $500 less and much lighter. Intakes. I have an opinion that is not popular so I won't even go there...

Will you get better gas mileage doing breather mods? Only if you geezer-drive it. Intake and exhaust section will be your best friend with the questions you ask.

Regardless of what happens in a test environment, as soon as you hear those intakes, you want to hear ever more. Your milage goes to hell because of this. And it is totally worth it.

IMO unless you're buying a full Nismo 370z exhaust(not the Nismo Stuned exhaust) i wouldnt even bother with a nismo exhaust

as far as intakes goes, the Nismo intake is practically the Injen intake with a bypass valve(to ensure the motor wont suck up water if you happen to submerge your normal filters) but it isnt really worth the $600 price tag associated with it

now if you want cheap power, the factory air box is already a cold air system so you can just do drop in filters and HPS Post MAF tubes and make about the same as most of the CAI out there

Forget improved mileage, you just won't see it.

If you want a power bump for a good price I would suggest the stock exhaust from the Nismo Z. It has a better sound, larger pipes, nice tips and perfect fit. Clean used ones should run you $400 on the private party "parts for sale" section of this forum. This exhaust is well built from stainless steel so it will last longer than the car. It is worth maybe 8-12 horsepower, not as much as some of the aftermarket units but good bang for the buck.

As for intakes, I went with the Stillen G3 long tube intake. It is CARB 50 state legal which means it is certified to meet or exceed factory emissions specs and is good for about 18 horsepower. It is beautifully made out of polished aluminum. My dealer has been fine with it for the last 2.5 years.

The two together should get you to 350+ horsepower at the flywheel for a total of about $1,000 if you do the install yourself.

carb just means its cali legal, everyone outside of cali could care less about carb honestly and having the Nismo 370z, it does NOT sound any different than a regular, sure its design is better than a regular 370z exhaust since it is a true dual setup but as far as sound goes, it isn't any different from a stock 370z

if OP really wants to save money, OP could get the Topspeed Pro1 Exhaust, it should make about the same as every other exhaust out there since its a true dual 2.5in setup although there are no dynos i have seen for this exhaust

not worth it IMO unless you like the NISMO stuff, then go for it

Is there any difference between the Nismo intake system and the Base? I thought they were both the same.

I just use K&N drop-in filters in my Z.

Well on the nismo 370z the intakes are the same. But nismo "makes" cold air intakes and sells them through their website.

Its basically an injen cai with a bypass valve and its painted black and has nismo on it instead of injen.

In other words, just put a Nismo logo on your base and you're set!

Help me a bit, HPS Post MAF tubes? Are these a particular type of exhaust? I do want a little more sound, but not the dropped Honda big pipe rat sound.

I have to fully disagree!! The S-tune NISMO CBE from Japan is very high quality exhaust system and does not drone like many other aftermarket systems. The NISMO is full SS with 36 month warranty when installed by Nissan dealer when the car is new.

The pipes are bigger and you will get a nice bump in Hp also it's lighter then OEM.

The Nismo intake system is nice because you don't have to cut into your car frame as with the STILLEN Gen 3 junk!!

HPS Post MAF Tubes are a replacement part of the intake, you know the rubber accordion part of the intake after the airbox, the post maf tubes pretty much replace that with smooth silicone tubes, those with K&N Drop-in filters net anywhere from 10whp to 14whp dyno proven(search the forums if you want to see them)
they also do not change the sound of the car
and i fully disagree with you, the nismo stune exhaust is only good for about 7whp while the Stillen and other CBE systems are good for 15-18whp

ya its lighter but so are other aftermarket exhaust systems and those are cheaper and give you more power and the Nismo Intake is literally the Injen CAI with a Bypass valve you could buy the Injen CAI for $100 less than a nismo intake and gain the same power

Nismo parts are a great example of paying for the name and not the part
