Was there ever one made for the 350z, maybe it can be easily tweaked to fit our hood?

+1

ive searched high and low for this...

I installed one on my 04 mach1 mustang and loved it...

i have seen kits somewhere that use the actual holes that the hinges attached to...

I had to drill holes in my firewall and my hood to install the struts on the mach.

i looked around under the hood of the 370z and theres not much room to work with on the firewall side, due to the weather stripping. the hood itself is aluminum so that kinda worries me a little too...

i would like to have a strut kit also though...

any sponsered fabricators out there wanta take a crack at a kit?

i do have contacts with a vendor who makes them, ill shoot him an email and report back. the last kits he made were about 60 bucks, and i still have them on my truck and work great after a few years!

I had a set from my 350z, I held on to them for a little while to see if I could get them to fit somehow. There wasn't anything that looked like it would be easy. I didn't feel like drilling new holes in my new car at the time.

I wonder if there would be an issue with bending or denting the aluminum with dampers like this.

as I popped the hood to my wifes 2010 Chevy Equinox to find that she has hood struts, it made me really wonder why the Z doesn't have it from the factory...

I would definitely pay $60 for a set.

Thats exactly why Nissan diden't install hood struts. I guess Nissan feels that people will not be careful closing the hood if it had struts. Even the GTR does not have them.
I did install them on my 350z and Evo8 without any problems. Hopefully someone will come out with some soon.

What problems would you have with closing the hood?

Because the hood is lightweight, pushing down on it or unevenly with resistance (struts) can possibly deform the hood. Im assuming this is Nissan's reasoning, I've installed them on aluminum hoods without any issues though.

That's what I was thinking. With an aluminum hood like this you would be pushing down on the front against the resistance of the struts. This could deform the hood I would think.

I had hood struts on my last Z for over 2 years without any problems. Yes, you do have to push down with some force to lower the hood, but not the entire way down. There's supposed to be a threshold point where the struts are compressed enough that gravity takes over and shuts the hood. I could see this being a problem with a carbon fiber hood, assuming it's a quality piece that weighs considerably less. Another situation that would make me worry is if the struts are too strong. I'll definitely buy a kit when one is available.
