Out of curiosity, because I've been out of the car audio game for 6-7 years now, what do these after market solutions offer today thats so great and above and beyond a system like say fords sync, cadillac cue, or the nissan/honda connect systems? Cost aside obviously.

Car manufacturers are selling cars with stereos as an add on, while stereo manufacturers are selling stereos. Stereo folks have a stronger incentive to innovate and update. I find their products to be more up to date and more sophisticated. I have toyota's Entune system in my 4runner and it is way behind my Z's Appradio.
