Yea 1st gear is tough, takes lots of practice, and if you're shifing on low rpms' you need to let rpms go down before you shift, so you depress the clutch and wait a second then shift, on high rpms it doesn't matter.

The auto shifts MUCH faster and you still have the control like a manual to downshift and upshift when you want.

And if you're NOT going forced induction, IMO, it's THE transmission to get

Bottom line on the clutch: Any clutch that holds power is gonna be rough. Try a 2 stage. I drove my buddies drag stang the other day and THAT bitch was clunky. However, I have never peeled out in all 5 gears before, so its a trade off. But sounds like you have made up your mind anyways sooooo...
