Anybody else OCD over the digital MPG gauge?
I have owned this car for a little over a week and I find myself always looking at the MPG bar (0-60) and I tend to drive slower without noticing it so the bar raises to a higher MPG. Other than that I have been averaging over 22 mpg for my first full tank.
|
I'm OCD about trying to make the bar disappear as much as possible :driving:
|
I just keep it at the outside temp display.
Unless I feel like getting trippy and want to stare at a bar go up and down :icon14: Don't really care about maximizing my MPG usage or even looking at it. |
:iagree: Outside temp for me as well. As long as I'm making enough money that I don't have to specifically budget and watch my fuel expenses, I want to just keep life simple, not bother worrying about it, and instead just drive how I want to drive.
|
Mine is always on temp . i dont give a sh** what mileage im gettting in this car :driving:

Outside temp too. On long highway trips I may put the mpg screen on the nav display. Never on the center info piece -- too distracting :)
Urban mpg = ~20-22 mpg, highway = 26-33 mpg. Keep in mind, the G is a heavier car too. Urban is ~50/50 highway/surface streets. No stop/go. |

outside temp for me too. though it was fun cruising down to CA last summer, tucked in behind an audi, cruised at 95 and watching the meter stay around 30mpg.
|
hummm.... someone bought the wrong car?
i only use the ambient temp screen. :p |
:inoutroflpuke:
If your ocd about such a small thing you'll drive yourself bananas. :icon17: |
Haha don't get me wrong I get on it all the time. I notice its mostly on the highway driving to work (I commute 22 miles to work mostly highway). And I am not an OCD person at all just for some reason the gauge catches my eye. I'm not trying to save MPG by any means (I sold my 2008 honda civic for this car) it just feels like a game.
|
Lol, no I don't even look at that. I put it on dte because the fuel dots don't tell me ****!
|
Yeah it bothers me too. OCD thing kicks in. That's why I leave it on the OAT display. I drive pretty conservatively (most of the time ;) ) so it doesn't bother me. I know my MPGs are still around 21-22 consistently.

When I took delivery of my previous car (09 Altima), I used to watch the MPG bar all the time. It was like I was always trying to achieve the high score on a video game or something. It took away all the enjoyment of driving for me. After a couple of weeks I stopped looking at it altogether.
It seems like the most counterintuitive feature you could ever put in a sports car. The only time I see it in the Z is when I'm flipping past it. |
If you want to OCD over a gauge indicator try practising shifting right as the red light flashes.
I find this entertaining. :driving: |
Mine is way off due to the different injectors, so it stays on the ambient temp screen.
|
Channel this OCD behavior onto something else like making it sound good and go faster instead of your guages.

Ha Ha, my DD is an 05 Civic hybrid and all I did the first year was watch the MPG gauge and try to get as good a gas mileage as I could. I even intentionally tailgated semi and drove 55 or below on the freeways. With that, I was able to consistently reach 47+ MPG average over a full tank. It's called "miling" in hybrid circles.
Compare the Z to that, what's the point? Enjoy the power and speed; forget the MPG. Of course, my problem now is I try to drive the hybrid like the Z in my daily commute and it just won't go as fast for some reason. :driving: |
I get OCD over the 12-14 mpg i average in this car

I'm only ocd about the paint on this car especially since its black .
Other than that, I don't look at that thing you look at ( whatever its called ) it makes me dizzy . I just keep it at temp . I will, however, look at my average mpg just for kicks. I'm usually at 19 If city/highway 22 on highway and 14-16 if mostly city But then again don't really care just interesting to me I guess. |
I have OCD so I keep it on outside temp. :)

You can't hammer your Z in traffic and I see no sense in throwing my money out the window, or out the tale pipe, when I don't have to. I do a 34 mile trip to and from work and have no problem getting 25-28 MPG in stop and go and hwy driving. |
I changed my gauge to AVG MPG yesterday and left it there...It's much better now haha
|
I never watch the bar anymore, though I did when I first got the car. I usually leave it on average MPG/MPH and then reset the stats every time I fill up. It's almost impossible for me to get less than 20 MPG because the stretch between home and work is mostly flat highway.

Driving the Z as a DD is very pleasurable when you're not worried about MPGs. I don't race the Z, so I have to get my kicks from my daily driving and the occasional weekend cruise. Sure, I don't sit up in the power band during my daily commute, but I'm not afraid to redline 1st and 2nd when the opportunity presents itself :driving: |

I calculate mpg at every fillup based on the trip meter and gallons pumped, but it doesn't factor into how I drive the car. I just want to see trends over time.

I'm OCD about living my life a quarter mile at a time. I eat american muscle for lunch and european luxury for dinner muthafu3kas!
Can't handle it? :gtfo2: |
Anybody else OCD over the digital MPG gauge?
No, but you go ahead and knock yourself out! |
The higher the bar means your just not pressing hard enough on the throttle.
