Lol, no I don't even look at that. I put it on dte because the fuel dots don't tell me ****!

Yeah it bothers me too. OCD thing kicks in. That's why I leave it on the OAT display. I drive pretty conservatively (most of the time ;) ) so it doesn't bother me. I know my MPGs are still around 21-22 consistently.

When I took delivery of my previous car (09 Altima), I used to watch the MPG bar all the time. It was like I was always trying to achieve the high score on a video game or something. It took away all the enjoyment of driving for me. After a couple of weeks I stopped looking at it altogether.

It seems like the most counterintuitive feature you could ever put in a sports car. The only time I see it in the Z is when I'm flipping past it.

If you want to OCD over a gauge indicator try practising shifting right as the red light flashes.
I find this entertaining. :driving:

Mine is way off due to the different injectors, so it stays on the ambient temp screen.

Channel this OCD behavior onto something else like making it sound good and go faster instead of your guages.

Ha Ha, my DD is an 05 Civic hybrid and all I did the first year was watch the MPG gauge and try to get as good a gas mileage as I could. I even intentionally tailgated semi and drove 55 or below on the freeways. With that, I was able to consistently reach 47+ MPG average over a full tank. It's called "miling" in hybrid circles.

Compare the Z to that, what's the point? Enjoy the power and speed; forget the MPG.

Of course, my problem now is I try to drive the hybrid like the Z in my daily commute and it just won't go as fast for some reason. :driving:

How in the hell do you drive SO HARD and still HATE the car???

2xtreme1 06-20-2013 12:34 AM

I'm only ocd about the paint on this car especially since its black .
Other than that, I don't look at that thing you look at ( whatever its called ) it makes me dizzy .
I just keep it at temp .
I will, however, look at my average mpg just for kicks.
I'm usually at 19 If city/highway 22 on highway and 14-16 if mostly city
But then again don't really care just interesting to me I guess.

I have OCD so I keep it on outside temp. :)

+1. If you're worried about MPG, buy a Prius!

Really??? You can't drive a sports car and still try to maximize your mpg in DD condition and not racing? Strange thought!

No doubt. I don't find it that hard to separate my DD from my pleasure driving.
You can't hammer your Z in traffic and I see no sense in throwing my money out the window, or out the tale pipe, when I don't have to. I do a 34 mile trip to and from work and have no problem getting 25-28 MPG in stop and go and hwy driving.

lt_370z 06-20-2013 09:06 AM

I changed my gauge to AVG MPG yesterday and left it there...It's much better now haha
