I see things a little differently. A decrease of $150 a month in car payment isn't enough. You don't need to get rid of a toy car to buy a toy truck, you only need a daily driver. I don't understand the need to jump right into another new car payment. I see two scenarios and neither would involve a new car if you are considering a house.
1. Sell the Z and keep your Versa. Versa goes fine in snow like all the other FWD vehicles. Even better when equipped with snow tires. Uncool car?... only if you care what other people think. 2. Sell all your cars, get one USED small SUV or pickup truck. Wait until your finances settle down after some time living in a house. Houses and the stuff you fill them with aren't cheap. I've had more than a few friends learn that lesson. Live below your means, pay cash for everything other than your house and take vacations for heavens sake. At 31 I can easily afford a Lambo or Ferrari but instead have a Z and S2000 and a house paid off with a healthy retirement fund and looking to get into the real estate game. And I only buy pre owned. It's all about living below your means. I'm shocked that the recession hasn't taught more people that and only because the economy is rebounding people are getting back into their entitlement habits. A $100K job doesn't mean get a $100k car just because you can easily afford the payments. I will get off my soap box, it wasn't directed at you but something I constantly see. I would go with option 1 above. |

![]() This. I bought my car 18 months ago, and am seriously considering getting rid of my Z and buying something with cash. Dave Ramsey FTW. Poor people ask "what are the payments?". Rich people ask "how much?".

I don't understand why anyone would say they want to save money, but get into another car payment. If $150/mo is that big of a deal - it's probably better to not have a car payment at all. OP didn't mention it, but would it be a lesser payment for a longer period of time? IE.) it would be paid off after the Z would've been? So are you really even coming out ahead? Factor in the gas money and I'd say you're not really saving much at all. Plus why would you want to take out another line of credit for a car when you're looking to buy a house? Drive the Versa (if it's paid off). Having a house > than a "more fun" car. |

Shame to see it go but seems like you have your priorities in check!
I couldn't imagine letting my Z go right now Its exactly why my bike doesn't see much action, I enjoy driving too much lol, especially as I get to drive her less often these days due to the little one.

Good luck. The Xterra is a nice ride and pretty refined compared to it's competition, and the Pro-4X actually has some capability with the rear locker.
Worth keeping in mind that getting a truck that costs less monthly isn't really saving money in the long run. |

I work 48 miles from work and when it snows hear on the island they do not plow right away for some reason. I would not be able to make it to work in the Versa. I also do not want to go out get a brand new truck then put 100 miles a day on it so I need two cars.
