Within your lifetime clutch pedals wil vanish from anything designated as a "sports car" (already well on its way) and appear almost exclusively in economy cars.

If some guy asks you why you have an auto sports car, tell him it's so you have a free hand to fondle his mom when you pick her up.

Automatic transmissions are for those who find driving to be a confusing task, for those who need to focus 100% on pushing one pedal. Rather than admit that driving is a skill that needs to be practiced and mastered, the people who favor automatic transmissions blame their poor driving skills on everyone and everything else. Real men drive cars with manual transmissions. Real men understand that cars need three pedals, otherwise the vehicle is nothing more than a fancy golf cart. Men understand that driving is a skill, and that the best way to master this skill is to maintain absolute control of all aspects of a car at all times. If you think it’s better to let the car tell you what to do, you may as well turn in your testicles so that they don’t get in the way of your marathon sessions of watching The View.

Automatic transmissions just aren’t considered cool; they are designed and built for your grandmother and have unappealing nicknames like “slushbox.” Newer dual-clutch automatic transmissions don’t fare much better, and are now often called “flappy paddle gearboxes.” Nothing flappy will ever be manly.

Men and manual transmissions seem to go hand in hand, and not just because you can’t say “manual” without first saying “man.”

quit using top gear terms that you only know from watching the show.

It's a shame really. Yes Autos can do the shifting faster, but for the few like me: shifting by hand in a sporty car > computers. Well worth giving up the few tenths down the 1/4mile- which would be the last track I take this car to anyhow.

I don't know dude... I find it hard to multitask when you have to worry about shifting gears. Automatic transmission is a lot more convenient and less hassle if you have to multitask when driving.

Well, uh, I use SRM, because I can't physically heel-toe to rev match properly (issues w/my knee)... so am I out on the "real man" part because of that?

Also, we have ABS, power steering, etc. Those are all to help make it easier...

Haboob 05-30-2013 10:42 AM

TBF, having a MT keeps me from using my phone while driving.

Not that I really need it, but it's an added buffer to prevent me from doing anything stupid.

We know that eco-warrior at its core is the opposite of manliness, but perhaps not all things eco-friendly are for wusses. Manual transmissions have historically been more energy efficient than traditional automatic transmissions, and a quick look at EPA numbers will show that a manual version of a car can get 1 to 2 more miles per gallon than its identical automatic-equipped sibling.“Green” is trendy right now, and that means that all the ladies (especially the attractive ones) are doing what they can to project a “green” image. Play your cards right and the ladies will be all over you when you tell them that your manual 370Z gets several mpg more on the highway than the automatic version.

Haboob 05-30-2013 10:43 AM

Sports cars and "green" don't go together. So you can't use that crap.

What all are you doing while driving (other than driving)? i rarely "multitask". other than doing advanced calculus on my way to my to my doctor/rocket scientist combo job

Tazicon 05-30-2013 10:57 AM

I am just going to put this out there. I can tell by comments people make as to whether they have actually driven a 7at and LEARNED how to use it as opposed to some of the comments that are juat plain not true. I really don't care which you prefer but don't try to make an argument with flat out lies. I would go through and call out each post but come on guys just because you are on the internet doesn't mean you can just shoot stuff out your butt.

Women like a guy who is good with his hand It takes a certain amount of finesse to drive a stick shift well, and women know that. If you can show a lady that you are skilled enough to shift a car without giving her whiplash, she’ll be sure to want to see what other skills you have.

it's not often, but when I have to take my dog with me in the car he's a handful
sometimes I get calls from work while driving that I have to take (or I have to call into meetings)

you do realize most women have no idea nor care about you driving a manual car right? and i get your little sexual innuendo attempts but cmon bro. grow up and coming from me thats a big insult haha :bowrofl:

Vertigo 05-30-2013 11:07 AM

If I'm daily driving in rush hour traffic every day, what fun is have a manual, especially if you live in a congested city like I do? That's why I have my R32 6sp auto for the 9-5 and my 6sp Z for the weekends

edub370 05-30-2013 11:12 AM

"o my! your manual driving skills turn me on so much!" said no woman ever....

Gotta keep the pimp hand strong, is what you're saying?

kenchan 05-30-2013 11:25 AM

i dont need to make up any excuses driving my MT sports car.

and i bet i can drive your AT better than most AT drivers can cause the downshift timing, etc. is in my blood.

neighbor down the street asked me how to use the paddles on his AT. im like, if you're asking me, dont use it. :icon17:

This is one reason that I like a MT: requires more focus on actual driving. Multitasking and driving DO NOT go together.

:iagree: absolutely true and I like it that way

BTW, this talk about manual transmissions being manly is just garbage. We originally bought the Z as a DD for my wife. That makes my wife more 'manly' than a man driving an AT? I don't think so :shakes head:
