:bowrofl: :bowrofl:

Wait, wait... what? You just pull, your left foot can pretend all it wants. :icon17: It's just like a video game when using paddle shifters.

Honestly I thought I may have a problem when I drove the F430, but when asked if I wanted paddle or AT, of course I picked paddle and it was a cinch. I don't think my left foot knew what was going on and just stayed planted. :icon17:

:iagree: I do this all the time... please don't make me make you rear end me :icon17:

I can't wait until more features are released for my tune... supposed to enable flat foot shifting :excited: (not that I need that for my DD but still awesome!)

Except, no... my left foot isn't content to sit on the sidelines like that. He feels left out and then jams on the brake when I'm least expecting to just to throw me off :bowrofl: It's happened once before and that was enough... Luckily, I have been getting in paddle-shifting practice with the Acura (too bad it doesn't have any power).

Going auto in this car is like going auto in a vette. Never have never will. Mama said if I went auto in a sports car I wouldn’t get fed. I told her to pass the beef. Grandmamma said automatic cars are for handicap people that wished they had a left leg.

I'm handicapped but I have both legs. :ugh2:

Trust me OP, just because you go to Glendale College (where the parking lot is apparently a race track to many others) doesn't mean you should feel insecure about your transmission package. ;)

In all seriousness, you guys (and gals) are right though: It doesn't matter what the tranny may be, enjoy what I have. I'm glad I got some solace out of your responses. Thanks.

Have pride in what you drive, not what transmission you have in your car.

I am not gonna doubt that mt cars take more skills to drive, and can be more engaging in a sense. But it all comes down to what you use the car for. If you love to track/drift then yes, mt would be much better.. The At and Mt are just as fun, both have thier ups and downs, one is not superior than the other. And that pretty much applies to majority of the Z drivers here.

Just ignore the negative comments, and enjoy the Z.

so you're still insecure about getting the AT. lol :rofl2:

At times I'd much rather have a C-drive car.

sounds like my neighbor down the street with a big jag. while he's the owner of the car, he looks more like a hired driver for someone else. lol :D

This I agree with completely. I've been back on the market looking for a 6MT lately and thought about ditching the auto entirely. I drove yet another manual the other day and guess what... I still have my 7AT. Honestly, I just don't feel the torque in the manual. I don't really feel anything. I'm a damn good driver in a manual but there was something inherently wrong. In the 7AT, obvously I feel like something is missing but at least it doesn't feel wrong. So I think I may stick with it after all. But if I do rebel, I'll let you know.

doink 05-29-2013 06:13 PM

As you get older, insecurities are less of a problem to a point you don't care what other people think. As I drive my automatic 370z around town and other cars (civics, mustangs, camaros, BRZs, etc).... they wish they drive mine instead... judging from the stares.

Tigger 05-29-2013 06:16 PM

Oh, and by the way... did I mention I trapped 13.57 in the 1/4 mile at 105.17? Bone stock? Pretty much right on target with the advertised reports. I think I'm good with my auto.

street2soul 05-29-2013 06:18 PM

i did this with my toyota highlander before i got the Z
people looked confused LOL

Bucketlist2012 05-29-2013 06:29 PM

When you get to a certain age, you could care less what people think....That is true freedom...

Wabbyyy 05-29-2013 06:39 PM

I thought i was the only one. Thank goodness.

shadoquad 05-29-2013 06:41 PM

I drive a manual. I love driving manual cars.

If anyone wants to drive an automatic, for reasons that suit them, then that's all gravy.

The Z is an excellent car with either transmission. I loved mine, and I'm sure auto drivers love theirs.

Life's too short to care about what other people drive lol

Tazicon 05-29-2013 07:16 PM

How many of you would pass on this car cause it's an auto? ...........I sure wouldn't

HowStuffWorks "Why did the 1966 Shelby Cobra sell for $5.5 million?"

Chuck33079 05-29-2013 07:33 PM

I wouldn't pass on it because it's an auto. I'd pass on it because it costs as much as all the other cars I want combined and it's too valuable to drive. It's pretty much a museum piece. That being said, that is so ******* cool.

Actually I would pass on any Auto old school Muscle car, unless it was for the 1/4 mile only..

I have owned Muscle cars since 1976 and a stick is the only way to road course the cars...Auto matics hesitate on downshift and then suddely lock the rear tires...They are primative Treansmissions and only a stick with heel to toe driving is the way to safely race road courses, IMO...On older Muscle cars only..

Lambos and Farraris even the GTR everyone on here so worships is an auto. Get with the times or move over. On the Porsche the auto is lighter and its a good margine faster then the manual. My Z is a 7AT because I hated, and I do mean hated the 6MT in the Z. Even my 1978 Datsun B210 had a better MT than the Z's do today.

Sadly, this is true. :ugh2:

Having owned a '77 B210, and a string of Hondas and Acuras with manual transmissions, I was really surprised with the clutch engagement on the 6MT. I purchased a 7AT mainly because it was my DD and I commute in Houston.

Since getting another DD, I wish I had the 6MT, be it an Acura transmission.

Forget the shenanigans, and enjoy your car. At 19 years-old, you have plenty of time to try a manual at some point.

It was pretty when there weren't 9,000,000 replica's out there.

Kind of a boring car now.

I sometimes get self conscious whenever there's a sporty car next to me because I feel like he/she is going to judge me for driving an automatic. So what I would do is leave my car in neutral during stoplights and then manual shift with delays in between shifts so it can sound and look like I'm driving a manual.

I wish I had a manual sometimes. :driving:

I drive a 6MT, but I don't judge people who drives 7AT.

It's true 6MT is more fun.. but nothing wrong with 7AT :icon17:

Don't worry about people juding you...

If a person judge you by the transmission... then he/she is an idiot.

ZKraken22 05-29-2013 08:46 PM

Your insecure about your 7AT? Man I wish someone would talk **** about me driving a 7AT. Not that i'm a tough guy but at the same time I wouldn't care or take crap from a random person and wha they thought of me and my car.

Wonka2581 05-29-2013 08:47 PM

I love my 7AT, it's a personal preference
I am a very skilled Manuel driver but there is something about the 7AT and what it feels like when your hanging the curves downshifting or upshifting with the paddles,

H2O_Doc 05-29-2013 10:04 PM

I love my 7AT, but would probably love a 6MT just a little more. The 7AT, however, saves me the occasional embarrassment of missing a 2-3 shift when it counts. I married outside my bracket, so I had to concede the transmission, which was probably a good call at the end of the day.

I am very impressed with the 7AT. Shifts are fairly quick considering it is not a DCT and produces epic downshifts when paired with an exhaust. Overall I am pleased with it and I can throw it into D whenever I just want to take it easy.

Shadezz 05-30-2013 07:50 AM

Had my Auto for over a year now and love it!! Feels like I can always just downshift launch and go!!! People always tell me "Man that thing really grabs off the line, 1st, 2nd, and 3rd......You just can't shift your 6speed as fast period.

zeeder 05-30-2013 08:10 AM

You guys are making me wish I would have at least test driven the 7AT...lol. I'm pretty happy with my 6MT though!

I love my manual. My old room mate had the auto 370Z and wasn't anywhere near as fun. The manual just makes me feel like I have more control over the car and its responses.

My new room mate just traded his 6spd 4 door GTI for an auto 2008 base corvette and its fun only because it has power but there's no way I would buy one. People make fun of him wherever he goes because he has the loud exhaust and its obvious to everyone around that its an auto. People of all ages, not just the younger ones, make fun of it.

With that being said, I don't think it's anyone's business which one you choose but people of all ages have much more respect from other people when they're in a manual. I laugh at the geezers in their auto convertible corvettes and the geezers with the Z06 get a thumbs up because in my honest opinion they are a true car enthusiast. Born in the times when autos weren't heard of.

I knew the 6MT quirks going into it and still picked it over the 7AT. Personal preference really. The 7AT was good and as the AT owners like to point out, it's a tad bit faster, but it still lacks the sense of control you get from an MT. I don't care what they say about the paddles and manual mode- it's not the same. I test drove both and to me, the fun factor of rowing through your own gears was 100,000x better than tapping the paddle. A DCT is closer- but still not the same experience. I guess I'm just old school.
