Default Automatic Downshift Delay

When your at cruising speed and you accelerate, does anyone notice a longer than usual lag from 7g to a lower gear...like the car is trying to go faster in 7g but realizes it's easier to drop down a couple of gears then finally does it, and u accelerated more than u wanted to because of the delay...i know, i know use the paddle shifters, but without them, is this normal?

Paddle shifters, abuse it or lose it. Just reminding you again.
