Glad your wife is ok.
The car's replaceable, your wife isn't

Yeah, good advice. I read that article posted above on hydroplaning and it says not to hit the breaks or turn the wheel. The problem is I was in a turn and believe me I was spinning in a split second. As far as being 20 under the speed limit goes does that apply to heavy rain as I'm assuming that's most likely in good weather. In a downpour I doubt you're going to get a ticket going 45 in a 65. The problem is everyone else around me looks to be going 70 in the downpour so I just stay in the far right lane and hope for the best lol That article talks about the rear of the car feeling squirrely and that's just how mine felt right before spinning. Above 45mph and I get that uneasy feeling with the rear of the car starting to slide around so I'm just going to slow way down when that happens as I know that sick feeling of hydroplaning and spinning around like a top at 65mph lol

Thanks for the tire link too as I'll look into those when replacing my current ones.

Yeah I'm totally flabbergasted that such wide tires slip so much, and that narrow tires are better in rain. Who'da thunk it?
I mean the physics of the situation make sense but on the face of it I'd never dream wider tires are worse in the rain.
Can any tire expert define whether different sizes on front/rear contribute to this instability?

OP: Glad your wife is OK. Get her to the emergency room and get some x-rays and a general overall checkup, because some injuries are hidden in an auto accident.

So you lookin to get rid of the sport package brakes??

Jk glad to hear your wife's okay.

Ps. Seriously, those brakes.....

370zGatorman 05-17-2013 09:13 PM

Glad to hear the wife's ok and as mentioned before get some xrays if you haven't. I felt no pain after my wreck from january 2012 and in october I started having hip pain all of the sudden so I'm wondering if they're connected. I'll be hitting the dr soon as I keep putting it off. Here's my pics:

Not the right time, yeah?

not sure what you mean here.. he titled the thread 'wife totalled the z' as if it was her fault or something. These cars are notorious for being bad in the wet with DECENT tires.. I feel bad for her - glad she's ok. Lesson learned I guess.. a rough one at that... I hope everything works out for you OP.

I don't think they are any worse in the wet than a typical RWD performance car. Tires are key though. In Las Vegas, doesn't matter what you drive, the first 10-15 min of rain is treacherous. The pavement has A LOT of oil and it comes right up to the top. It takes some time for it to wash away.

May we all be so fortunate in an accident, if god forbid, we were involved.

I know that feel. totaling a 370 and walking away. I'm very glad that your wife was as lucky as I was.

Sorry about the Z, though :(
