For all the car forums I frequent, it is really obvious that the forum community is a very, very small subset of the owner community. While the ratio tends to be better on rare cars like exotics and low production cars, it still is really minimal.
Just know that you are doing the right thing for yourself. Arming your brain with research and information only makes you a better owner, and gearhead in general. And really that goes for any aspect in life. In contrast to the guy you mention, his ignorance may hurt him in the future with potential unexpected mechanical failure, or just a general lack of knowledge of what options are available. But you could change that. Offer to meet up with the guy and talk cars. Maybe he will get something out of it and cease to be an assuming d-bag. |
