Pulled over for tints...while windows were down.
Got pulled over about an hour ago, my windows were down since the second I left my driveway (super hot day today).
I'm a little shocked at the cop's nerve to proceed to tell me that I have side window tint when he hasn't for one second seen even a millimeter of my window. I was let off with a warning but god knows how hard i would have raged to get a ticket for something the cop never even saw for one second. Wtf is this bs? That to me sounds alike to saying "Oh this is a fast sportscar. You probably speed a lot in it. Here, take this speeding ticket in advance":shakes head: |
Your reputation must precede you and he must have seen you before
If you run as dark a tint as you do it's only a matter of time until you get popped I ran the same tint as you, got popped and now run much lighter up front |
Cops don't like Zs. :shakes head:

For all he knows this could be a different person, different black Z, or I could have taken off the tint last time he saw me, if he ever saw me to begin with (which is highly unlikely considering NYC). Thats number 1. Number 2 - Probable cause dictates he would have to see me, and there would have to be a reason he "suspects" i have tint TODAY and right NOW. Not having seen a window whatsoever while my car passes there is absolutely no probable cause or reason that I would have any. Your logic is flawed. :ugh2: EDIT: what is much lighter in your eyes? I am at 35% and its only dark in the dark. Daytime you can see through no problem. |

Next time will be a fixit ticket, arguing about how he found about it is pretty worthless since at the end of the day you're in violation and got caught You drive a high-profile car with limo tint, you're going to get popped again |
Yeah at least it was just a warning OP.

No doubt i'm taking this shiit off. However its pretty ridiculous to assume there was a violation without having seen a violation. Read my example of assumption that I speed because I drive a Z. Should I be pulled over, warned, and eventually ticketed for that too? :shakes head: |
He likely based the darkness of the glass behind the side windows. LEOs need just reasonable suspicion; not necessarily sole probable cause. He probably let you off because he didn't have a tint meter to gauge your tint.
I rarely issue citations unless it's blatant--5% tint on the entire windshield, for example. :icon14: Edit: NY's tint statute states 70% for both front and side windows maximum, with no limit on the back window. 35% is in violation by half. |
Dam I only hear about this in New York, cops used to be diicks in SoCal now they don't care about no front license plate and no tint really anymore
|
Why didn't you ask him how he saw your tint?
Anyhow, he only gave you a warning for a law you violated. I'm pretty sure he could give you a ticket instead. I say today is your lucky day. Go buy lottery. |
