Well the 350 was like 90% of my income. The 370z isn't too bad...I think it's worth it. It's the insurance that kills me. Cars are my life and I'm willing to suffer a little in other areas because of that. I'm going steady and have scholarships to pay for college. Thinking about going into mortuary science :ugh2:

In a few years when you actually have some expenses you are going to look back and be pretty pissed at how much money you frivolously threw away at cars and stuff. If you were my kid you'd be paying me rent right about now. And for the record I’m not much older than you, and that attitude you have I think is pretty foolish.

Man, I sure wish my free Geo Spectrum passed the NY inspection the following year. I'd have driven the living crap out of that car. Mechanically it was perfect...but my dad barely drove it in the winter, and well...its Geo quality haha. So that sucker rusted in no time. Man, it was a 5-speed, great on gas, and a fun little hatchback. I'd have driven it into the ground...which I suppose I did.

I remember saying the same thing you did, when I got my first new car. After the Geo, I blew $4K on a Lumina, which was a nice car but I wish I kept it in the end. I then bought a new Cavalier, which was pretty expensive for my current paycheck, but I knew I was going into the military soon so I could afford it. But it was such a dumb idea - I should have just kept the stupid Lumina. Oh well. That was a lot of money down the drain.

I think he's saying you shouldn't of bought the Z to begin with. The 350 or 370 for that matter

Well I know that, but it's a little late :shakes head: and honestly if I wasn't waiting for parts (Wheels and lip kit) for 5 months, like I have been, I probably would have sold it.

What fullmonty said. But christ, look at your mod list dude. You've obviously got money coming from SOMEWHERE, cause I know Im pretty good off in my situation and I dont have money to blow on all that ****. If you'd pay your car off instead of mod the crap out of it, you'd be much better off.

Yeah I know.. When I sold my eclipse I put half down on the z and the other half into mods which I have sold most of now btw. Buying that GT Haus exhaust was a freakin stupid idea. I ended up selling it and losing a lot of money, I could have put that money down.

fullmonty 07-02-2011 06:17 PM

Yet you're still waiting for new wheels? I know when I was 19 I wasn't very good with money but Christ I only spent what I had. You are driving yourself into a situation you are going to have a hard time getting out of. Maybe if your parents didn't spoil you so much you'd have a better sense of financial responsibility.

I do only spend what I have. I paid for the wheels 5 months ago with money I got from selling my other car. Which was a dumb idea btw.

Let me explain a little something to you. It's called "opportunity cost". You know what that means? To simplify it, if you have 5 dollars, and spent it on milk, then that means you are not able to spend it on cookies.

You "paying" for your car was only made possible because you "lived at home and have no other bills". In the real world, that just doesn't happen. I think you're getting a taste of it now, yet you still choose to waste money by purchasing mods that don't add value, then trading or selling the car at a loss, etc etc....you spend your money foolishly (and still try to brag about it.... lol... that's the funniest part).

Other kids like you at their age were not too fortunate. And seeing you waste your money, errr sorry, your parent's money on frivolous things like cars and car parts and mods is down right stupid. I won't stand here and tell you my life story, but I don't think you should either. You come across as brash, arrogant, and to be honest, a little uneducated. And you're getting these responses from fellow owners here because of how your posts illustrate who you are.

This is worthless. I don't think any amount of common sense can be knocked into you. Good luck in your chosen lifestyle.

I don't mean to come off as arrogant..and well I wasn't purposely trying to start anything or brag. I was being a little bit sarcastic but that doesn't show very well through typing. I like being part of this forum and is probably the only reason I bought my z and started modding it. I learned my lesson and that's why I'm parting out my car and putting that money down to try to get it payed off faster. Recently I've sold my HFC, GTHaus Exhaust, gt haus midpipe, y-pipe, spacers, SRI, wheels... I'm really trying to even everything out and not lose any money when I sell my Z. Yeah I made mistakes.. you don't have to be so harsh. I'm working on it.

I think you made a mistake in your first reply here, but are now manning up to the criticism in a more mature way. Kudos.

I agree with FL_4Motion there...if you can't afford to take your girl out and the car is 60% of your income, you really have a problem... I wouldn't even do payments that's over 10% of my monthly income.

Good luck. Hope you can turn your financial life straight. We all make mistakes. It's being able to humble down while you're young, that you can drive cars you want to at a later age.

You can either drive a $30k car now, or a $300k car later. Pick one.

I had a 2008 Scion tC with the normal CAI, CBE, and some tasteful aesthetic mods... served it's purpose for the 1 commute to school each day... but once it hit 90,000 miles and I knew I didn't have to go back, it was definitely time to upgrade...

couldn't be happier.
