Driver check! Old folks have to go through some kind re-license period or something after they reach a certain age. :icon17:

Are you going to get a diminished value claim?

LiquidCrewZ 04-29-2013 02:40 AM

If I was 90 and someone told me I couldn't drive, I think I'd basically say "screw you" and drive anyways. What are they gonna do? Throw you in jail for the remaining 3 years of your life? Fine you or sue you? Just have a lawyer push those dates out for a few years...

takes notes....Hookers, Blow, Credit Card Abuse, farting in public added to Bucket List

Ahhh, better edit this post. Speed limit of 35 means no more than 35. You're admitting to exceeding the speed limit.

:icon14: In our state a speed limit of 35 = you can drive 35 mph +/- 5 mph due to speedometer calibration. In my Z, going 50 mph, on a radar gun is actually 47/48 mph.

In Illinois you only get a ticket for 41 or more in a 35 or a 29 or less in a 35.

ZMan8, even in my state, while our state statutes say, nothing in excess of the speed limit. Prior court cases here have allowed people to get off of speeding charges unless they were 6 miles above the posted speed limit. Basically the same as Illinois. This is not to say they weren't speeding, but that they do not have to pay the fines associated with speeding, thanks to the court.

In OP's post below, he is admitting to exceeding the speed limit. Plus his comment in the 2nd sentence, I know he's joking, but it wouldn't look good in court. In a civil case where Preponderence of Evidence (just got to tip the scale in your favor) is the burden of proof, this may prove to be the reversal of his claim that the woman was at fault. If you or I were the woman's attorney, I think we would both do the same thing.

I don't know how to post the link here, but the Illinois State Statute on speeding is basically the same definition as Hawaii. So while we may not have to pay a ticket for a few miles over, it's just good to be cautious what we post on the internet.

and since we're at it, you are not alone. Just dropped it off at the shop today, $2,300.- damage, my daughter overlooked yesterday a huge telephone pole when backing out of a friends drive way, no idea how this can happen, but it did. Had traded cars with her for a few days because I needed 3 seats for an airport pick-up.

Anyway, I feel for you :eekdance:

Nothing worse than a geezer in a truck. So last week wed, i'm in the Z in the left lane on the street doing the limit. 35mph, when this 80 yr old geezer in a new Ford F150, who was inches ahead of me started changing lanes WITH NO TURN SIGNAL but was also moving substantially slower with me there. I put half my car in the left turn lane and started honking like mad at the old guy. He looks at me like where the hell you came from??? lol. I was there the whole time. If the street didn't open up with a left turn lane. The way it would have played out without the turn lane. I would have had to slam on my brake and the tailgating mustang would have hit me... Or i would have to speed up like crazy and probably get hit on the rear 3/4 by the F150. I'd be posting this same thread.:ugh2:

Actually there was a study on this once, the whole "age cut-off" thing for drivers. Apparently there are much more accidents due to younger drivers, than there are of the elderly.

I'd be interested to see what PERCENTAGE of people are having accidents, elderly vs younger. I'd also like to see how the number of accidents goes up according to an age bracket. As in, 17% of people 65-70 have had an accident in the last year, 29% of people 80-85 have had an accident in the last year, etc...
