There's really nothing you can do about old people. Enact all the laws you want, they'll just do what they do. If I was 90 and someone told me I couldn't drive, I think I'd basically say "screw you" and drive anyways. What are they gonna do? Throw you in jail for the remaining 3 years of your life? Fine you or sue you? Just have a lawyer push those dates out for a few years...

Nah i wasn't driving fast.....speed limit was 35 i was goin no more than 40. She shouldn't be driving if she couldn't see me coming lol

Yeah it sucks. I bet the elderly secretly think its the youngins responsibility to bring up the average reaction time and visual acuity when it comes to encounters with them. We'll probably secretly think that way when we're elderly too.

Ahhh, better edit this post. Speed limit of 35 means no more than 35. You're admitting to exceeding the speed limit.

Ouch. Thats about 5k worth of damage. :(

Agree, some 1000+ year old Korean woman that was smaller than an ewok did this to me in in my old Eclipse. She couldn't even see over the steering wheel, and she had at least 3 other colors of paint on her car. You should need to take a driving test every 10 years.

You from OC? I see ... Especially were you are at there is a bunch of old people driving!! trust me I know that area is a lot of 80+ year olds.

Op, ouch! It's not a pretty picture. Hope everything goes well and gets fixed. It looks like there is no damage on the rims..? which is a good thing I would assume.

I swear these cars are invisible. Almost every single time I take the car out, someone is trying to run into. I've had to take the bonus lanes a few times to avoid being hit. Sucks this happened to you but as I seen earlier, perfect time for the vented quarter panels!

That's why we need aftermarket exhaust.

To alert people who can't see(90 yr old in this case) that we are coming.

Sorry to hear about getting hit. Good your are safe, mostly cosmetic damage, the lady did not die on you, and you have an opportunity for an upgrade to a nice kit, new set of wheels, etc.

Truth be told, it is an age thing --- young and older. I agree to a certain extent with Z370Z011. Once you get past 70, you become dangerous but not as dangerous when you were a teen.

Actually there was a study on this once, the whole "age cut-off" thing for drivers. Apparently there are much more accidents due to younger drivers, than there are of the elderly.

According to statistics from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration and the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the safest drivers are in the age group between 64 and 69 years old. After 70, it starts to rise ---- sorry Snowhite370 -- you're a victim of a sad but true statistic....And studies of the data reveal that teenage drivers — especially male teenage drivers — are the most dangerous drivers on the road.

Remember the elderly who rammed his car through a crown in a closed street full of people during a street fair in Santa Monica?

Nailzs 04-28-2013 06:33 AM

Statistics are gathered from people they happen to.

wstar 04-28-2013 09:39 AM

Yeah but the spike in the deadliness of the wrecks at the end isn't because they're more-violent wrecks. It's because one of the people involved is very old and frail and more likely to die from less-severe injuries.
