Sorry for being a devils advocate.
Yes its costly to maintain a Porsche but they are bullet proof cars. Man if you have seen them run the 24 hrs LeMans and 12hrs at Sebring you'll get amazed how this cars can take the beating. Don't know if any of the 911's Gt3 DNF. If i can afford a 911 now I'll jump on it like a heart beat. But that's me. You know what's best for you. Either way they are good cars to have. See my car knocking on Heavens doors??? hahaha |

Okay, go with the Nismo. |
I have always wanted a 2001 911 Turbo. I make the money. I could own one. But I bought a Z. Why? Because a car is what you make it. I don't need or want a Porsche to take spirited runs through the woods. The Z, after only a couple of easy mods will do everything I want it too and then some. It will be difficult to even push it to its limit outside of the track. And I'm not even talking a Nismo. Just a plain 'ole touring base model. And hell, I've met guys that gave up far more expensive cars to get into a Z and never looked back. Don't think of it as if you owned a Z, it wouldn't be expensive enough or have the name stamped on it that would make you proud to own it. And I think that is the part that gets everyone.
In the end, it is what tugs at you more. If you have the means to own either, I would choose what draws you more. If not, everytime you pass one you'll say "Damn, I almost bought that!" Then you'll think of some BS reason to backup your decision to own one or the other that will make you sleep better at night. I say get the Z. The Japanese can make some serious sports cars. ;) And besides! Why the hell would you get a Porsche before a GTR anyway?! You can get a 2010 for $65k!!! :D Good luck with your decision. Hope whatever you get you will be proud and not look back. |
Nismo because the cost to maintenance a Porsche will probably be 4 times more.
Before buying the 370z I had a Mercedes, and oil change on the C320 cost 3 times more than that of the 370z. I would have to think oil change on a Porsche 911 has to cost a lot more than a MB C320. But if money is no object then go for the 911. GL with your decision :) |
To be honest, while your young(I assume), get the nismo while you can and save money for a NEW 911 turbo later. You don't wanna do the backwards unless you decide to pass up the Nismo. I don't see many older fellas drove Nismo on the road they usually rock the Porsche. You still have plenty of time to get a Porsche.

I vote Nismo. Seriously fun car to drive. There's something special about being the first owner of a car as well. You know everything this car has been through with no hidden surprises. I'm sure most Porches are well taken care of by their original owners, but who knows, right? :twocents:

OP, if you are asking this question in a Z forum, you know you already want the 911 but you are trying to find out a good reason not to get it. ;)

You won't go wrong if you take a good test drive and buy the one that feels the best to you. Also, test drive at more than one dealer of each. That way you get a chance to check various options that you may like and get some competitive prices. Watch the dealers as they often start with similar prices, hoping to land a sucker. Also, dealers in various cities are sometimes located in different regions with a difference in price. Most importantly, ask around about the service you can expect from each. If I could afford both and had the opportunity to own both, I would probably still drive my z... I've had it for almost a year and I still love driving it everyday...... It's like fun ride everyday and sometimes I just can't wait to get off work and drive home in it lol

A 911 late 90's is a good looking car. The Nismo is newer and with power as well. Go with whichever makes you happy. I love the Nismo, never had an opportunity to own a late model Porsche, so I can't say anything about them but they look good as well. Follow your dreams, be happy and don't spend so much in repairs.
