Well - if you toasted your engine - pay to have it uninstalled and take that **** in under warranty... lol when it comes to having to spend 8k... lol ill pay the 400 or so to remove the cooler

Grand sport vette.
Z06 body, brakes, not sure about the suspension, i think perhaps dry sump on the stick but not auto..

the rumor is the grand sport is mostly bling too. and frankly the wide body on the z06 is nice, but the rumor is it will weigh more, be a tad slower at the strip and track..... lots o complaints about not upping the hp to at least 450 to 460..

course i think they should do away with the z06, offer the grand sport z06 option, which is the grand sport body with the cadillac cts-v detuned ls3 from the zr1..

Sadly you are one that has never been on a track with a NISMO Z. There are many videos out there that already show how well the NISMO does with race slicks. No aftermarket Z has yet to handle as smooth and good.

But then again, the 370z has no body welds which is a huge difference in handling, so that might be enough for someone to blow off the NISMO this year.

You know what Ill give you that as Ive never tracked any Nismo Z. Im purely going off of Mag articles Ive read. :tiphat: I concur on the smoothness from what Ive also heard of the 350z Nismo as it does have the dampers and the welds to really stiffen up the body and control flex etc. As you stated I dont know if thats why the 370z version isnt any faster than the regular model. More testing should reveal the truth.

I read about the NISMO 370Z and saw that weight was added. Since I liked the fact that the Z was lighter than my Infiniti G35 Coupe and my '93 30ZX TT and the nose looks JC Whitney, I had no interest. People under 40 may not know JC Whitney and that's a good thing. I read about the NISMO handling and did get the NISMO springs, shocks and sway bars. Really like the difference. Was unthrilled with he rest. SB has the right way to go, for me, with Stillen intake, headers, HFC, oil cooler plus lighter flywheel, under pulley and OZ 18lb Wheels. Already have exhaust. The Sports brakes work very nicely thank you.

Answer:

A) take the oil cooler off and go to a different dealer that doesn't know it was ever installed

... I think this would be above-board if the cause was unrelated to the oil cooler installation.

Also, Nissan dealers have a ~$5K limit for repairs where they can authorize any warranty repair less than or equal to on their own. So pretty much all but an engine replacement, perhaps trannie replacement.

Riddle me this then Batman, as the Warranty thing has been thrown in our face here before. Let's say a dealer decides to install your Stillen Cooler (I think Phimosis is in this category). He's feeling good because his dealer Warrantied the install and Stillen warrantied the part.

Part fails, Toasts engine. Stillen's limit of liability according to their warranty is to replace the defective part. Dealer says NOT OUR PROBLEM, it was not our part. Who pays? You do (for the whole engine)

Installation fails. Any install failure will result in the dealer pointing fingers at Stillen. They're all pre-made parts that just screw together. How "wrong" could it go? Momma Nissan will not support the dealer either way. The dealer did this on his own and the Mother ship is sure not gonna pay a $8-10K repair bill when it was the dealers (or Stillen's) fault. Dealers are independent businessmen...They are NOT Nissan.

See where this is going? Unless you have something in writing from the dealer/Nissan that will cover these circumstanses you're basically SOL no matter how warm and fuzzy you felt after being schmoozed by the service writer who took your money for the work......

Agree... I think I just double-posted this point... sorry... and just a slight correction to your numbers, it costs $10K to replace the engine on this car!

just wondering how big of a chances is that the stillen cooler or the nissan cooler will destroy your engine?

I dont know travis? how big?

travisjb 07-20-2009 11:29 PM

really really small, if you use a qualified installer... and go ahead and check their work anyways!... and oh by the way, if you ever see an oil light, PULL OVER... FAST

glad I can laugh about it at this point! wasn't true a few months ago

I can't get over this so I figured I'd post my opinion and see what you guys think. Four months ago when I bought my 370Z, I was an excited 'convert' from having owned a number of Audis.

With my old Audis, I was truly an Audi enthusiast. I drooled over the S and RS variations of the cars, attended Audi driving schools, etc etc. I was loyal and loved the sportier versions offered by the S and RS models. Audi had and still has something special in their 'sporty racing' versions that is sexy and desirable.

Now I'm a Nissan owner and I love my new Z. However, out comes the Nismo 370Z and all I do is find myself cringing at everything Nismo represents. First, the 'sportier' model looks arguably ridiculous from some or many angles. Even something as simple as more aggressive styling is done with numerous stepoffs and contours that don't compliment each other. To make matters worse, the bumpers look like plastic rather than smooth, sleek and hi-tech. Second, the Nismo really offers nothing that's more desirable. If Audi put out a Nismo 370Z, it would sport a twin-turbo or V8 upgrade. Why isn't our Nismo sporting 400+hp? BMW and Mercedes also know the recipe with their M and AMG versions. People would laugh at Audi if the RS4 just had new front and rear bumpers, some RS4 stitching and a new exhaust.

In short, I'm sorry to say that anything Nismo makes my stomach crawl. The last thing I'd want on my car is anything that actually says "Nismo". For me, Nismo is just Cheese-mo. What do you guys think?

+1

I thought I was the only one who thought that the Nismo looks cheesy, unrefined, plastiky and 2F2F.

On top of that. it is slower than the regular Z. Sure, like some said, it must be jealousy

Okay, maybe it's time to throw my two cents in. I just took delivery of my 370z nismo. I like it a lot. The car I have been driving is an 03 350z track model. The 350 had full nismo suspension, stillen exhaust, nismo cai, kintex intake, 19 inch rays lmgt4's, etc.. Yes you can build a custom car for the same or cheaper than the nismo, but as an overall package this car is a good value. Will I modify this car, sure. But until then I have a warranty without question.
Everyone talks about buying aftermarket parts and ending up with a better car for cheaper but no one talks about cost to install these items. Time is money. I wrench my own car(after warranty) but still installing these things takes time. Is the body ricer? Maybe to much for some. I wish the rear wing was smaller, but really like the lines of the front and sides, especially in black(my fav). I have tracked my 350 at various venues and it was a joy. I have a feeling that the nismo will be just as much fun. The oil cooler is an issue for all of us and I have been hammering away at a resolution. I have a nissan motorsports part # now, but am waiting on price and availabilty. I too wish this car had more HP(400 would be the magic number) but alas this is what we were given. My price for the car with destination charges was 38,500 plus TTL. So beat me up flame me or whatever, but for my two cents, this is a great car

travisjb 07-21-2009 12:25 AM

I don't think anyone should flame you for buying it... if money is little object and you like the car, then why not.

I would caution you however that some have speculated nissan motorsports parts will not preserve your warranty in the same way that nismo parts will. you may want to ask around a bit on that. in all likelihood, nissan will view the nissan motorsports oil cooler as no different than a stillen or gtm or redline kit with respect to any future warranty claim.

carlo_amacio 07-21-2009 12:31 AM

poeple always gets defensive over something that going to be better than their car. it happened between the 350z to 350z nismo, 350z to 370z, and now its happening to the 370z with the nismo version

Pushing_Tin 07-21-2009 12:39 AM

The NISMO isn't my cup of tea, but I still like it, it's still a Z! Congrats on the new car, post of some pics and join the other discussions.
