Remote start

Anybody have one of these installed yet, seems easy enough with the push button and auto.

bigaudiofanat 07-19-2009 09:10 AM

LOL my friend if only you knew. You have so much going on that I think that it will be a while before it is even possible to do. You see your transponder is what tells the engine and the system it is okay to start. This controls everything so without that the car will not start. So in older cars were the chip was inside the key you needed a tanspnder that held the key inside a box under the dash and tricked the car into thinking it was oka to start. The problem with your transponder is if that is in the car weather it be inside that bax or in our pocket. Not only can you start the car but drive away with it as well and unlock the doors to. So If you did a remote start and you hit the start button on your keyless remote. Someone could literaly walk up hit the button to unlock thhe car get in and drive off. I just think it will be a while before anyone dose one in this car. PLay it safe and wait.

The thing about the remote starts, is when you hit the brake, then the transponder ghosting unit shuts off and your key will have to be present to take over and keep the engine running.

so whoever gets into your car will not go far.

bigaudiofanat 07-19-2009 09:47 AM

That original ranspnder is inside the car and the car will see it even after it is disengaged and the car will sill use that trans to operate. I eman the car can read the transponder inide a leather cas inside a pocket or in a backpack, I am sure it can read it inside a peice of plastic.

Just found this
"i dont have remote start on my z but i do have it one my 03 dodge ram. only thing it messed with was the factory keyless the keyless feature is now tied in with the remote start, if i dont remote start it i have to unlock it with the oem remote, if i do remote start it i have to use the keyless on the remote start keyfob. my sister has it on her 05 scion tc she had problems with it because of the immobilizer so she doesnt use it to much anymore. its a nice thing to be able to get into a warm or cool car yes, but i wouldnt put one on my z, no"
That to me is enough to not want to install one

Why remote start? Can anyone give me a logical answer as to why people are so eager to start the car from far away? What purpose does it serve?

marcussoori 09-15-2009 04:24 PM

See the reply I got below...not very promising. Anyone interested in being the first guinea pig?

"Dear Sir/ Madam

Thank you so much for your e-mail. My name is Tsuyoshi from Japanparts.com. About 415-014-020-1, it is for A/T, so this is okay for the transmission type. However, all of our parts are basically for JDM, so I can not guarantee that this will fit to USDM.

Also, the installation directions in English are not available and not able to check the signals, so I can not tell that this sound is same as the US signals.

I am sorry for the inconvenience.

Remote start would allow your car to warm up (or cool down) before going to it. They are most useful on diesel engines on cold days so the glow plugs have time to warm and the vehicle can be ready for real driving right off the bat. This can also be good to guarantee that oil and tranny fluid is warmed and moving (in the top of the motor) before getting on the throttle to limit pinging and such.

Another huge benefit I can see for the Z car is on icy days to get the car warmed up and the windows defrosting before opening the doors. I'm sure that at least once an issue has come from the self venting windows opperating with ice on them.

If a DEI 555 style keyfob replicator is released that will link the transponder signal into the port on the lower-left side of the dash then I don't forsee any issues. I wouldn't be happy with the "hide-a-key" method that used to be prevalent with Fords and Toyotas.

Also thanks to the fact that the car knows exactly which gear you're in you could use diodes to make sure that the E-Brake was on and the car is in Neutral before attempting to start. Partner that with a pre-ignition relay to bypass the clutch pinswitch and you're golden. On my 240 I actually just disassembled the lower clutch switch and made a jumper to bypass the thing all-together. I did keep the upper switch though, so the cruise control would still drop out when depressing the pedal.

I was just doing some looking around, looks like there's an interface module out already. It interfaces with the OBDII port, I remember starting to see some like this back in the day when I was still installing.

Programmable Platform#07:CAN Bus High Speed Interface
XpressKit.com - Compatibility Chart

Looks like I'll be installing one of these in the next couple months, should be a fun refresher ;) Might go with the new Clifford Matrix 50.7X or Viper 5901, can't remember which I have access too.
