I got a 9500ix and I am very pleased with it, fairly quiet due to understanding false alarms and GPS location.

Has anyone gotten their hands on the new Passport Max?
The passport folks seem to think its the greatest thing ever made but I haven't heard any first hand opinions yet. https://www.escortradar.com/passportmax/index.php It does say "Pre-Order Now" so it may not even be available anywhere yet. EDIT: Update - I asked when they will be available and got this repsonse: "We estimate orders for the new Passport Max placed before June 11th, 2013 will begin shipping in June. Orders placed after that date will begin shipping in July. All are on a first ordered – first shipped basis. We will not be able to give anyone an exact shipping date. We will send an e-mail message with the tracking number when your order ships!" |

After doing a good amount of research I got down to the escort 9500ix and then right after that saw the Max coming out.
Hopefully some tests come out soon. I'm not falling for the new display - I could care less - but if it has all the same features as the 9500 with some added range and accuracy..... |

9500xi for me, the only thing that I don't like is that I lost some signal response roughly about a car length nothing to worry about as I can pick up a signal 2-3 miles out. Oh and I lose reception with the GPS once in a while no biggie there just don't run red lights.

Radar Detectors
I live in Central Texas.
◦ Does anyone still use them? ◦ I need to know the makes and models you use. ◦ Anyway to block the lasers? I don't have a front licence plate. |
|
9500ci love it

yah, it's been discussed quite extensively. not sure specific to central tx though...

How long until gsxr750 shows up to call us all sheep who fell for marketing because we bought radar detectors?
|
and the consensus was that the V1 was better.

Couple of write ups
I am hoping some Texans :tiphat: will chime in. I am looking to spend less than $300 as well like the Whistler 1780, Cobra XR-1050, Bel 980...

One has been.
There's a large drop off in quality between top tier detectors like the V1 or Escort, and the cheaper ones. Save up more, buy a refurb, or buy used and get a good one. It will last you longer than the car will. |

I purchased a Escort 8500 X50 when I got my Z. I hard wired it and I have never been more happy. Although I do sometimes wish I would have spent a bit more and bought the 9500ix. But none the less it still is great. |

Passport 9500 has saved me over 9000 dollars :D

I live and die with my e Beltronics Vector 955. I10 and H54 are packed of Cops. Very good radar. It has saved me from some high price tickets, cops dont play around here in Texas. I was pulled over once for going eight miles over. I was so upset that day the cop was a jerk.

Search around the forum:
http://www.the370z.com/nissan-370z-g...has-one-6.html Either the V1 or the Escort looks like the top 2 that I've seen around here. |
V1 and Escort are like Cannon and Nikon....can't go wrong either way. Each has their own pros and cons.
I personally love the V1. Knowing the direction it's coming from is huge in my book. Whichever way you go, make sure you get the mirror mount and hardwire kit that plugs into the back of the mirror. Clean look and hard to see from the outside. |
I got a detector when Circuit City went out of business, it works like a charm. Beltronics I believe. My only issue is mounting. I wish it was 100% hidden. It sits on the dash of my Toyota, no idea where to put it in a Z.
|
I own a V1 as well and I love it, I highly recommend it. It's an older model but works very well. I mounted it next to the gauges on the dash, I can send you pictures if you get interested.
|
Can I replace one of my gauges with a radar detector? Someone make one please!

Plus, they are rectangular, not round, and much wider than the gauges. |

The issue is still the LOS and placement. I have seen some V1 placed in the rear of a car with a straight through line but I would bet some detection is lower because of it. |
I'd like to see pics if you can. Wiring is the worst part. Here in CA we can no longer mount anything on the windshield so to secure the radar unit I used one of those 'sticky pads" you see advertised. STAY AWAY! After two summers it was a brown blob of meat on my dash. I used Goop to get it off and it was a real mess. After cleaning the dash and detector I found another way to secure it.
Get yourself those felt feet that you stick on furniture or a TV or anything really that you do not want to leave a mark. I got a bag at Wally World for a few bucks. Now I put six on the bottom of my detector, arranged like a six-pack can view from the top, then I put two more where you'd put your fingers in the six pack. So it looked like a row of three, a row of two, and a row of three, all snugged up together. Now remove the tape on the two rows of three and stick then to the detector. When that is done, take the single row of two in the center, flip them over and put them back snugly in place, and remove the tape so the sticky bits are facing you. Now press the detector onto the dash. Success! When you lift the detector the two feet that are in the center will stay on the dash and are very unobtrusive. The six feet on the detector stay on it. This also raises the detector a fraction of an inch and avoids contact with the vehicle. Less scratches and more cushion. When you place the detector back on the two feet, the corners of the other round feet secure nicely. Only issue is the power cord! And this is on my Toyota. I demand it be a much cleaner install on the Z. |
I'd rather mount the detection portion behind the front grill. Or I wonder if it can be put in the windshield like they do with radio antennas?
