My v1 was stolen last year and I am looking for fully integrated system that is not visible.

I have an Escort Redline and it's been good to me. Picks up cops from over a mile away most of the time! I always have it set on AutoNoX and it's just stuck to my windshield. I want to hard wire it or maybe change to a hidden one as well...perhaps in the future! But I recommend using one in the Z, it brings you peace when you want to unleash its wings haha.

I have one too and agree... I dont even feel the need to hardwire because the cord hugs the front dash and tucks down to plug..

The only thing that drives me nuts is the suction cup adapter i got. Falls off when the windshield is cold and drives me nutz!

First day i had my Z i hardwired my escort 8500 X50.

Radar is behind front grille, front laser shifters, and display is in the rear view mirror, fabricated a custom bracket for the rear...

Heres a video of my Escort Redline in action..

There was a cop on a motorcycle up ahead hiding in the entrance to one of the neighborhoods. The redline went off about 1.5-2 miles in advance. I cut the video off before i made it to the cop and slowly looked at him while i strolled on by. He didn't seem too happy that i was going 35 in a 40 :D

Advice Needed: Best Radar Detector

Guys,

I am looking for the best radar detector available. Have to rush home 350 miles for my mother's 80 birtday on March 17th, and I willl, well, probably break the speed limit.

At any rate "good" radar detectors may now be a myth . . .

Thanks in advance for your input!

Jeff

Highly recommend you search around the forums. there have been multiple threads on this topic. seems to be a coin toss between the passport 9500XI and V1.. i like the 9500XI myself

Mitco39 02-10-2013 08:59 PM

I am partial to the 9500IX as well, I love how it locks out signals. It works well.

Obey the traffic law works better than the best radar detector.

while I do agree that driving super aggressive on the street is dangerous but lets be honest we didnt buy 370Z's and sign up for this forum to drive the car at the speed limit all the time.. This is an enthusiast type sports car

:iagree: 9500 rocks. I have a stealth remote installed 8500ci, it's excellent as well. The V1 fanbois will kick and scream, but I think the 9500 is top current technology for radar detection at it's finest.

I definitely agree with you on this one, however I invested in the 9500ci not to break the law and speed recklessly, but more so as a threat detector... We all have occasionally zipped around town doing 45-50 with even paying attention, in most areas local speed is 35 to 45, so we find ourselves doing 10 over without even realizing it. Installing my system I believe has made me a more cautious driver because I didn't realize how many times it has alerted me to actual police threats and red light cameras. I don't think the majority of people who own radar detectors buy them with the intention of reckless driving. That being said Escort/Bel to ME has offered me the best protection since the late 90's when I used their first concealed system... I have been protected since.

My installer and I opened up the mirror and found a decent spot. IF you have the auto dimming feature, it will not shine through very brightly during the day, but very visible at suck into the night. I eventually ended up, getting a mirror- replacement from radar-mirror.com after about 4 or 5 months, just for show purposes really. But I think it gives the 9500ci more class in the mirror... There are some videos on YouTube and an alternative to radar mirror is etching an area for it to shine through perfectly... GL post up some pics when you move it...

SurfDog 02-11-2013 10:32 AM

Will do!

SurfDog 02-11-2013 12:02 PM

In fact I'm going to move it on Friday. Ill post when it's done. I suppose the auto dimmer has problems back in there.

Did you run yours full bright to be visible!??

:iagree: Nothing like that sudden drop from 45 to 35 just around a corner and the man is in his favorite speed trap position................ meanwhile you were doing 50 thinking you were safe at 5 over and bam................ a 15 over the limit ticket............... that's what mine has saved me from, as well as the open stretch of interstate in good weather and I wanted to do 85 in the 70 zone to reach my destination........ I don't consider that reckless in good weather and moderate traffic conditions, YMMV.

NickBaragona 02-11-2013 06:40 PM

I have the 9500IX Race Edition, the red and black matches my 40th's interior. Amazing radar, has helped me avoid a speeding ticket several times.

SurfDog 02-14-2013 09:46 AM

Hey Staggard353 was the display visible during the day at full bright??? I have 35 tints on my back 5 windows to help keep it a bit darker inside,

I looked at the homelink radar mirrors! 2200 bucks. Whew! I'd rather just keep it on the dash.

I plan to crack open the mirror over the next few days, but only if you think it will be a workable display!

Thanks for your input.

Staggered357 02-14-2013 07:12 PM

You can see it through the mirror during the day... At full bright...vaguely... I was satisfied but not truly happy... You don't have to buy the whole mirror... You send him yours and the display and he sends it back... Like 400.. I just did that because everywhere around here wanted like 350+ to etch the mirror and they couldn't guarantee a positive result since it would their first time doing something like that... For this radar... I thought the price was worth it...

tiger123 02-14-2013 07:32 PM

I have a V1 and never leave home without it. It has saved my butt many, many times. For the money, IMO it can not be beat. Yes, it is expensive, but for what you get, it's worth every penny.

As others have mentioned, I do tend to drive more conservatively with it, which is a good thing. But when I want to step on it, it's good to know it has my back. :driving:

I will be buying another one for my wife's Van. She has a heavy foot, but doesn't realize it. ;)

I've pretty much decided to go with the V1 for my birthday. March 28 can't get here quick enough!

Has anyone tried mounting it above the rear view mirror? It looks like it would fit, not sure if the black dot matrix affects the signal though.

Heard the Passport 9500xi was good because of the GPS system. It stores all the false alarms and they wont go off once they are identified as "false." Valentine 1 (V1) has direction arrows on the radar detector to tell you where the signal is. Research and pick which one you like. Don't get a Cobra, biggest piece of poop and waste of money.

the 9500xi is a stand alone dash mount and no laser shifters.
K, Ka, X, POP, LASER, GPS

The 9500ci is a full stealth install with laser shifters. (requires a pretty involved custom install)
K, Ka, X, POP, LASER, GPS + LASER SHIFTERS

I have both (xi on my truck, ci on my Z) both are good, the ci is waaaay more fun!

xi 400 bucks
ci 2000 bucks installed

Stino 02-14-2013 10:04 PM

The Beltronics work awesome. I have one in my 4Runner and Z. Couldn't drive without one. I've been using one for 8 years with zero tickets. They do work!

Also if anyone is interested in an Escort radar system.. They do in house financing...no credit checks... Directly off your debit card... For example.. If you wanted a 9500ci like I did.. I paid 555 up front (including next day shipping) and 100 a month gets debited off my card on the 16th every month till its paid for( or whatever day you choose) check out all the different ones at www.escortradar.com

I just flew by a Colorado popo and his laser pistol. Shifters shifted. Driver downshifted. Goodbye popo buck Rogers. Better luck next time

I had radar in my car from 1982-2006 starting with the original passport. I had a V1 from 1996-2006. Two things made me sell it. The first is the same as above. My driving habits changed and I just found I very rarely dove more than 8-10 over and if I stick to that rule I can go right through obvious traps and the police just don't care.
The second reason I sold my V1 was the constant false alarms. I got to where I would just ignore the damn thing and ride right through traps. But since I was only doing 8 over - the cops ignored me.
I didn't get a speeding ticket in my Talon TSI, Volvo C70, BMW 540, Z4 3.0is, or TL 6MT. Then I put a Stillen supercharger in my 2013Z and the damn thing is just so much damn fun I got two tickets in 3 weeks.

So I decided to get a new detector. I went with the Escort 9500ix because of its autolearn ability to simply ignore stationary radar - so fewer false alarms.
It works, I like it, I feel protected. I will probably keep it until 395whp seems old hat.

You should slow down and kill the jammers quickly. That way you don't draw any extra attention to the jammer community.

Most cops think jammers don't work, and we want to keep it that way so they don't put effort into defeating them.

Jammers can be defeated when you use the right equipment and techniques.

Stealth is our friend.
