The pedals need to "work against each other" if that makes any sense, one goes in the other comes out, usually at the same rate
Again the pedal has NO FEEL, so you need to really get a sense and KNOW where the clutch engages

Yea, sometimes I dont even think about anything else other than shifting and going faster. Especially because its my first car, and its a 370Z and Im just too exited on the road. Im gonna have to pay more attention to the details of how I shift, Accelerate and see what I can improve on.

Lol, if you really need to go that fast, upgrade the tires, upgrade the clutch, upgrade the CSC while you're at it, and get a REAL LSD, and dump that bítch every time

DIGItonium 01-14-2013 08:14 PM

When boost kicks in the yellow VDC light starts flashing. Am I doing something wrong? :stirthepot:

Glad you're having fun! Just avoid the money shift.

In the last month I had the CSC replace and the steering lock fuse, it all cost me around $1800 dollars, I don't have money right now to upgrade the car.

LOL Thanks Nissan :eekdance:

It's easy once you talk to people... And maybe the Dallas people will chime in, I wish my regular non 370Z friends were here too, they'd tell you that I am a wizard at times, LOL

He had an engine replacement, and TECHNICALLY he was out of the factory warranty

im a die hard stick shift driver, but i really really wish i got the 7AT. Its amazing how clunky and sloppy this gearbox is.. I have to pray to not get smoked by a Toyota Camry without having to floor it to get to 3rd gear.

Wow, some of you guys most of just had bad luck with your trannys. My 09 shifts nice and smooth, same with two previous 350z's I owned.

And I would never own an automatic sports car:stirthepot:

Sometimes I feel that it wont left me shift to the right gear, Is that because its not the right gear I should be shifting to?

Is this before or after the dealership replaced your CSC?

When you say it won't let you shift to a gear, can you give a much more specific example? Are you downshifting or upshifting? What RPMS? Do you have SRM (rev match)? I assume you have the clutch pedal depressed and are trying to shift into a gear other than 1st. Up to about 55 mph you should be able to shift into any gear except 1st and reverse, of course. The other day SRM basically redlined me in neutral at 60 mph when I accidentally pulled the shift knob all the way over to 2nd while trying to go from 6th to 4th gear :shakes head:

Sometimes I'm going pretty fast like lets say 5th gear, 4 or 5 RPM's, about 70MPH and I try to shift to 6th gear and it feels likes it wont let me until the car slows down a bit. Now take that example and think about 3rd gear going 50mph and when I try to switch to 4th it wont let me. I feel like If I shift really fast it will but If I dont shift within 2 seconds it blocks me.

Hopefully that makes sense

I assume you do not have sports package (w/ SRM). I am also assuming there are no grinding noises or anything like that. If you wait too long in neutral for an upshift, your RPMs might drop a little low for a smooth gear shift. At the higher gears you will drop fewer RPMs so you might find yourself needing to let out the clutch quicker than you would for a 2nd to 3rd shift. If the RPMs drop too low you'll feel the transmission struggle as you let out the clutch, but it shouldn't physically prevent you from shifting into the gear if the clutch pedal is fully depressed. To help out the transmission, you can blip the accelerator to bring the RPMs back up to an acceptable number for your gear shift. When downshifting while braking, this maneuver is called heel-toe.

Its an 09 with 59k miles, lol so yea it was driven a lot. But I bought it 6 months ago, I figure they wouldve change all of that before they sold it (not the owner, but the dealer)

the maintenance simply says "inspect"... switch it over to a synthetic like Redline MT-85 and I bet you'll see a noticeable improvement

I had to read that like 3 times, and still cant fully understand. But I will play around with it, I have been observing when its most convinient to shift up or down. I'm getting the hand of it though, Love the driving its aweseome

Love how impossible some people make the mt on this car seem. Really wondering how many people were ACTUALLY DD'ing mt's before they picked up the Z.

You only need two gears to hit 60mph for eff sakes.

Lol, I kinda agree with your point anyways, but I still don't like the manual on the 370Z

I have no idea why they made the clutch pedal feel so linear... I like heavy clutches, but this isn't heavy, just lifeless...

lol That's true.

Not to sound cool but sometimes I'm driving so fast I dont even notice how fast im going.

Example I was hitting 80mph on a 35mph zone (no cars obviously) and I was probably on 4th gear and OMG I swear I was just enjoying the ride until I realize and told my self "Alright Robert (thats my name) you gotta calm down" lol

Hey dude, best not to talk about that kinda thing on the forum. ;)

But yea, the car is deceptively quick. Flat torque curve.

Im 23, So Im kinda young. Its my first REAL, my own, I Pay with my own Money car, and the 370Z is probably is in my top 5 favorite cars. So everytime I get in my car I have this huge smile lol

Now that I have quite a few people looking at this thead. I have another question but I dont want to start another thread.

What is your take on taking off on 1st Gear or 2nd Gear? I started taking off in 1st gear but when I realize that i was having to shift to 2nd so fast I decided to just take off on second gear all the time lol. I was unsure whether that was bad for the car or if its not a big deal. What do you guys think?

Fair, I'd like to stick with manuals for as long as possible since I'm pretty sure we will be seeing a lot less of them in the near future.

DEpointfive, I think we all get that you don't like the manual tranny in our cars... since you kinda mention it in like every post... can you please explain this lifeless clutch feeling.. because I have no idea what you are talking about.

Have you ever owned a manual Z or is this just based off of a test drive?

Our Z's have a lot of pedal travel, high engagement point, I'll give it that. But in all the Z cars I've owned I've always had a nice, smooth shifting gearbox, and never any problems with the clutch. Not sure why so many people say its hard to drive???

Oh man...

http://www.the370z.com/engine-drivet...ides-hill.html

But I mean if you wanna have slow starts and potentially put more wear on your clutch, go for it.
